Haven’t read all the comments, but I’d run bloods. Liver damage can not show many symptoms just lethargic, have experienced it myself in a 5yo.

I would also get a vet out and do a blood test if this continues.

My other thought is whether she has changed shape at all? If her saddle is not fitting properly, this could be stopping her from going forward, and could be causing a change in her behaviour. If you lunge her with and without a saddle, is there any difference? (I would speak to a vet before doing any hard lunging though).

My old share horse would be very lethargic at this time of year, usually until about mid Oct when it started to get properly cold, then he'd pick up. The first two years we had bloods done, which came back perfect both times. The third year, we twigged there was a pattern. We just kept the work very light and were sympathetic if he was 'lazier' than normal.

There's no chance she's in foal is there? I know the timing's probably wrong but you never know! A new mare arrived at the riding school I used to ride at. She was really, really quiet. I was going through a bad patch confidence wise and rode her a lot, I loved her, she was so quiet and kind. A few months later it became very apparent she was in foal. After she had the foal and was brought back into work she was a very different ride and not really suitable for a riding school.

most of the riding school ponies are very quiet at the moment and I put it down to changes of coat/season. They are putting winter coats on and then we are having 20 degree sunshine, so they are hot and bothered. I assume they will pick up again in a few weeks x

Thanks everyone. I had a chat to my vet and if she hasn't picked up this weekend they are coming out next week to take bloods. I am going to take her out for a short hack at the weekend and see if she's any different. I really don't think it's related to tack/saddle fit as she's only had these checked a couple of months ago and hasn't changed shape dramatically. Fingers crossed it is just a season change - so hard when you have a new pony and have no idea what is their "normal".

I hope the vet can help putting your mind to ease the worrying situation at the moment sorry that your dog has passed away 😢

Do you have any photos off your cob

Just to update you all, this weekend she was back to normal, so I have cancelled the vet. :D Thinking now possibly just a virus and she was feeling a bit under the weather. Saturday here was really hot again, so couldn't have been her feeling the heat. Just glad to have my pony back to her normal self. They do like to worry us, don't they?!

Was thinking about this thread as mine was very lethargic this weekend. Saturday he suddenly looked like a charity case (looked absolutely fine Thurs eve when I had seen him) but yesterday looked better but still lethargic and dull.
Oh I hope your boy perks up quickly. Perhaps it is just the time of year, but I've never experienced anything like this with any of my other horses. 🤷‍♀️

Glad it's sorted out, but just to say a saddle can cause problems even if you can't see any change in shape, for some horses the tiniest change can cause a change in the way of going. Ask your fitter next time to show you how to monitor the fit yourself so you know when to call him/her out.
