We have just got a 13hh pony on loan from a friend for my daughter. She's a lovely pony, easy to handle, great to ride, happy for my daughter to handle her and groom her. However she is a bit funny with her feet being picked up and when we had the farrier out last week she was a bit funny with 2 of her feet then her off side foreleg she kept rearing up pulling her leg away. Our farrier is fantastic, very patient and gentle but firm when needed.
If she was a youngster I could understand but she's 17 and my friend who has had her from a youngster says she has always done it and no matter what they've done she's no different, not had any Injury to the leg or being badly treated.
When I distracted her with carrots she was a lot better and stood to have her feet trimmed, and our farrier had a good look and checked her feet there's no damage, bruising, etc.
We absolutely adore her but obviously with my young daughter around I would love a way to calm her for the farrier if anyone has any ideas that could help? She's happy for me to pick her feet up and even my daughter can run her hand down her leg and pick a foot up its just when anything is being done to it.
