My best friend is devastated.
She put two, healthy, polo ponies in the field in evening. Final check 7.00pm - all ok. When they came in next morning 8.00 am one could hardly walk (shoulder) and she noticed the other was beginning to sweat.... One hour later, the mare was dead. The post mortum revealed she had bled to death. No organs were in any way damaged and she was a fit healthy horse. There seems no explanation for this at all. I wonder if anyone has heard of anything like this and may have a theory ?
The lame pony is so bad there is a discussion ongoing with the vet about having it shot as the best option.
There wasn't a mark on either pony, no kicks, no sign of distress or bites.
What do you think ?
