Hi there,
Last Sunday, my daughter was riding her pony in the menage. She was super-fresh (pretty norm!) and decided to throw in some bucks. After one particular buck, she obviously did something as was immediately and significantly lame in front. At first I suspected something shoulder-related, but the following day, it became apparent this was not the case - this is what we have found so far:
She had obvious heat (although no swelling) in her pastern and very top of her hoof. Still very lame. We cold hosed it/put some cooling gel on for a few days and after about 3 days i would say there was no heat at all (still no swelling). She has been box-rested for a whole week and has trotted up sound the last couple of days.
She got back on her for the first time today, after 7 days box rest, took her back in the menage, she was messing about a bit (although didn't buck) and sure enough went lame again :-(. Obv daughter got straight off and brought her onto a level hard surface to trot her up - definite head bobbing.
They are due to go to blue chips in less than two weeks, but that aside (I def wouldnt risk it if she wasnt 100 per cent sound), I am just generally worried as to what this might be - I havent called a vet as she seemed to overcome whatever she had done and all the heat had gone.
Any thoughts really welcome?
