Well I have recently put a grazing muzzle on my 11.2hh pony and she's just not getting it.

I have put her in a Dinky Classic Grazing Muzzle which I know are especially made for ponies. It fits nicely around her nose so she can breathe and the gaps are in line with her lips. I have fed grass through it, given her treats in it and she's still not eating from it. I left it on for 15 minutes to start with, now she's had it on the past few days for 4 hours or so. But I don't think she's got it. They get new grass each day and she just rubs her head in the grass then kind of stands there and gives up! It fits correctly a I have checked this numerous times but just concerned. On the plus side she's eating less, but aware of potential gastric ulcers if ponies don't eat for periods of time....

Any help appreciated please!

Yes, in the field she's in there's a selection of different lengths of grass. The new grass they're on is much longer. When the other horse got given feed, she went over and tried her best to steal from some her feed bucket...and she got some!

Maybe check that the muzzle is not tighter once her head is down? ours wears hers with a gap on the muzzle of about and inch and a half when the head is straight , but not loose enough for it to go over her ears.

Our pony does flattens the grass before eating it.

One pony I know, stops eating if the owner is watching! xx
