Well Cracker, the HHO rescue pony was rehomed to a similar set up after he was rescued at Christmas

It was done through the Hope Pastures charity and they were very happy with the business, ponies, people etc.

So I dont have a problem with it. I suppose it depends a lot on the people running it as to how safe and enjoyable it is for the kids and how good a life the ponies have.

It's just donkey rides updated , but as I don't like them I would not be interested but expect it will be popular.
Just hope the organisers are bloody well insured when it goes Pete Tong

I've come across a few people who do them, and it seems very popular, and quite safe. Think its a good way of bringing poniesto kids who otherwise wouldn't have access to them. Riding schools have done them for years. Think my brother is having one for his 6 year old, although they ae in the states at the moment.

I don't see a problem with it myself. Daughters pony comes in the back garden for her bday parties, with it only being young & quite forwards I don't think its safe for non- riders so we borrow a friends lr pony & take the kids one at a time for a ride up & down the cul-de-sac. Ponies then stay in garden while we do normal party games.
A good riding school near me does them but when I took daughter for a look around she said she didn't want to go for a slow & boring ride with non horsey friends.
I think its a fab idea, since daughters been having pony parties a load of her friends have asked for the same, its nice its available for non horsey parents. No reason to think its any more dangerous than a rs or donkey rides.

My daughter had my 15.1 cob and her own pony doing pony ride parties for 4 years in a row for her whole class. We are lucky enough to have a bridleway very close to home and everyone always had a wonderful time. Admittedly I always made all parents sign a disclaimer and stay with their children for the rides but despite balloons being burst, kids running, shouting and playing and all kinds of scary stuff around both horses were amazing and we never had a fall or an accident of any kind. The kids all loved it and it made my daughter very proud to be able to show her class her horses!

Have to say however that I don't think I'd be asking our horses to do it any more than once a year. It really did tire them out!

I don't think they are too bad as long as what the ponies experience is part of a normal working life of a pony - grooming, a ride etc.

I went to look at a horse to buy once and I was well aware of the reputation of the place. I wanted this boy because I felt very sorry for him - he was very thin and they had no grazing and didn't feed. Long story short - she would not let him go for less than 3 grand (500 quid would have been a fair price for him) ... anyway I digress....

When I turned up there it was obvious that there had been a pony party going on. There were five or six ponies (mostly shetties) tied up looking very sorry for themselves. The most shocking things was the length of their hooves closely followed by the colour of them. The children had been allowed to paint them - actually paint the ponies themselves. One shetland was bright pink and green - all over. There were bottles of poster paint stacked up by them. It made me really sad. When I asked about it - she said 'it's the stuff kiddies use in pre school so it's safe enough for the ponies'

:mad::mad::mad::eek:

I agree its possible for it to be an unpleasant life for a pony if badly done, but same goes for anything really with horses.

Seems a harmless thing to me. Ponies look well cared for and they probably enjoy the attention. Provided their care is good, and the old health and safety rules are applied:rolleyes: then what is the harm? My daughter used to have parties at the stables with her friends and played lots of games and races and had cakes and sarnies sitting on the straw bales. They all had great fun. As someone said, much more fun than walking in endless circles for lessons.

Hmm...not sure I like the the sound of the pony being taken to someone's garden...
I have heard of riding schools doing it, but then it is based at the yard and the children are taught how to groom etc. the pony and then get a ride round. I think if its done probably its probably quite a nice idea but would feel more comfortable if its based at a yard rather than the pony being carted around to peoples houses which seems quite odd

If done well and the Ponies looked after then it can be great, especially for a little child who wants a pony but can't have one. I'm sure some ponies love it, I know of a few who love attention! But then again there is an opposite, where the ponies are not very well looked after.

However, unfortunately this can happen in anything! Just because a pony isn't involved in pony party's doesn't mean it wont get neglected.

The grey pony in your link came to a 'family fun day and bbq' at my son's school a couple of years ago. I was actually very impressed. The pony was beautifully turned out and obviously well cared for, new-looking hats were supplied (adjustable ones if I remember rightly) and it all went without a hitch. The pony was an absolute angel, totally unfazed by various bouncy castles/slides, jugglers, disco music etc, and seemed very happy in its work. I wanted to take it home!
So I don't have any problem with it at all if done properly, although I can see how things could go wrong if not.

I think if the ponies are well looked after and enjoying what they are doing, it is fine. My son's first ride on a pony was one of these groups set up at a local fun day, and all of the ponies were well turned out and didn't seem to be at all bothered. I think they were quite liking the attention. They had several ponies there so that they didn't have the same ones always on the go, so they had plenty of rest time. Had they looked at all unhappy in any way, I'd never have let him ride them. So done right, I see absolutely no problem with it, personally.

did anyone else see the small print in the pricing part of the website does that mean when you pay for the hour your only getting 30min
