Hello, I am thinking of venturing into starting a pony party business in Somerset. I would offer two packages: One where I would go to the customers house with two sheltland ponies (1 standard which will be for pony ride and 1 miniture for petting), the children can groom, apply sparkly hoof oil, ride and play games for 90 mins. I will supply the invitations and party bags. The second would be hosted at my farm for 2 hours where the children do all as above but with extra games and visit some of the bigger horses on the yard. I will supply party bags, invitations and lunch for up to 12 children.

The thing I am stuck with is price?! How much would you charge? The first one will have to include fuel.

I have a friend who does this. She has six ponies, ranging from Shetland and Welsh A to Welsh B and Highland to cover a broad spectrum. She runs them from home, and does the catering, inside party games etc, has a bouncy castle, and then does an hour of petting/grooming and pony rides, using the correct sized ponies for the kids, and the others for the grooming etc. They have three of them running each party, plus a set number of supervising parents per child.

They also get hired to do pony rides and/or petting at fun days, charity days etc. They do not too badly, but it is charged as a whole party per child.

Insurance is similar to a riding school, I believe public liability and client/employee accident insurance?

Hi there, I'm very interested in what you decide to do! I'm in Somerset and my daughter, who will be 3 in April wants a pony party. Would love to hear from you x

Why donts you have a look at what competitors charge and also for experiences such as flying owls and hawks, farm sessions etc to get a feel for the going rate. Good luck with your venture...sounds great!
