Pony Refusing To Be Stabled HELP!!!!

Honestly I can't understand how someone can ruin the easiest horse alive. You can catch him in a herd no problems groom him pick feet out tack him up even I sat on him was not bothered. I used to go down and he would be waiting for me cause I was late feeding him. Never needed a headcollar followed me round like a puppy. Very vocal and always greeted me . Loved scratches. Would do anything for food even a trick or two. Yet now he won't even go in a stable. Great lol . I am Going to slap that woman. All he needs is routine how hard is that ? She should not have horses if she can't be bothered to go down every day never mind once a week.

I agree I was silly to not think he might come back. I have not done loans before so not sure what I expected. Only ever sold. I just think I am angry at her for wasting my time and having to stress him out

I highly doubt your pony is ruined.

Slap yourself for slagging your loaner off on an internet forum instead of dealing with the problem directly.

I am more angry with myself for believing she could give him a better life , she had me in the palm of her hands making out that he would be cared for.

I asked her can she not just let him live out but she wants her other horse stabled in winter, and he wouldn't like been out alone

If someone had a pony of mine on loan & was only checking it every few weeks I wouldn't be making suggestions re stabling to solve the situation, I would just bring it home.
And just as much your fault for not doing regular checks as it is the loaners, so its a bit ott to be talking of slapping her.
Agree its a minor issue that can easily be sorted with some effort on your behalf op, not a ruined pony.

Okay well not ruined but work when it could have been easily avoided. What would you say to them ?

"I'm sorry, staying with you is not in the best interests of my pony, I'm giving you a week's notice to take my pony back."

Or if you prefer, simply "I'm giving you a week's notice until I take my pony back."

if you cant put a 6x8 foot shed or pole barn up for him, then why cant you fence off the front of the stables at night with some elecky fencing so he lives out but is close to the other two horses at night, it can be managed, but at the end of the day he is your responsibility and you also rescued him so maybe you owe him a bit more than he has got, good luck anyway

Do you think 6x8 is big enough? i was looking at 10x8, 10x10 , Yes i do owe it too him hes a star just thought he would be better off there and i wouldnt have done it if i knew. i am still looking at some sheds will order one this week and get something sorted i cant sleep with all this stress! suppose you can only learn by your own mistakes. wont be loaning a horse out ever again.

The shed idea is definately workable for a Shettie. I'd go and get him as soon as possible.

Good luck, I hope that everything works out.

He might even share with Eddie again the only reason he stopped was Eddie wouldn't leave him alone but has calmed down since been gelded. that would be the best thing if that would work before he was coltish he lived with Eddie for 6months no issue

you asked if 6x8 was big enough, well compare that to how much space both horses would have sharing ?? as long as horses have enough room to turn around and fresh air and are safe anything will work if you put your mind to it.

You dont need to spend a fortune on buying a shed and converting it to accommodate a pony, you could build a lean to against the end of the stables as long as you make it big enough it will work out fine, a couple of poles in the ground, a few trusses to hold the roof, couple of sheets of corrugated iron, a few sheets of wood around the back and side and 2 poles for the doorway, leave a bit of space between the roof and the top of the wall sheets for air (this will also stop the wind picking it up and taking it away) and bob's your uncle, probably cost you about £200. If you have sandy soil put a bit of concrete in the bottom of the holes for the poles and if you have mud soak the poles in some creosote and put loose stones in the bottom of the holes for drainage, simples, far cheaper than a field shelter/shed, good luck!!

Your yearling are shetlands aren't they? In which case two acres and two stables is plenty enough to accommodate all three of them.

I think our shed is 8x6 or something like- He can lie flat in it and tbh looks similar doing so compared with my 16.2 in his proper stable.
I got it on Ebay for less than £100. When i manage to get a decent shelter he will live out and i will have a perfect new feed shed! ;-D
Mine has to come in at night purely to keep TB company! (when i have the shelter both will live out but til then in foul weather its great)

I'd take him straight back.
They are obviously not giving him the best home.
Taking him back sooner rather than later gives you a chance to sort his issues and if needed find him the right home before winter.
