Agree with both of these.

You're not alone though. A friend lent her sport stallion to a visiting Huntsman; both of them extremely experienced out hunting. They came to a very wet and muddy gateway that would normally not be thought twice about but for the first time in his life, horse sank to his knees and rolled quickly much to the amusement of everyone else and horror of the VH as he is a stickler for smart turnout! Someone suggested that he might perhaps be better off on a lead rein!

What girth would you recommend for a sentitive itchy pony? I do think that it might be the girth that annoys her, particularly if her tummy gets sandy / dirty. She is a funny litle pony who likes to keep very clean! I don't think it is the saddle.

I'm not saying the girth would necessarily be the problem but potentially what it was cleaned with.
Sorry I wouldn't know on actual material to help!
