We decided to clip Boomer yesterday. Big mistake. As soon as my mum got them out of the box he started feaking. When she went near him with them he was rearing up and barging at the window (totally out of character for him) We got told 'he's never been clipped before' so it was obvious he was going to be scared, but we didn't expect him to be quite that bad! He needs to be clipped as I've got a one day event this weekend and he sweats when we're just doing show jumping at home, so any suggestions?

If your horse is so scared & obviously may become dangerous if you try to clip. I know it's a pain but the only other safe way is to get him sedated by vet. I have two.. One hates clippers & will just about kill you if you try to clip her but my gelding does not mind at all.

Jade, with enormous patience and going the mobile phone on vibrate, electric toothbrush, hairdryer, clippers route over however long it takes, you might be able to eventually resolve this. But overnight, no way! Sedation is the only solution although I asked a similar question about sedatives v tranquillisers on the forum a couple of days ago and had a very helpful post back from (I think) a vet who does warn that even sedatives won't always work with a truly terrified horse. Good luck!

The first time I tried to clip my mare she just about flattened me so I decided in future I would take no risks! I now get her sedated by the vet every year and she is fine although if you go near her head sh manages to fight the (heavy) sedation and trembles. I think its only fair that if they are that terrified to sedate them unless you have enormous amounts of patience! Good Luck Im sure you will find a way round it!

Thanks, we're probably going to get soem sedatives from the vets and see how it goes. He was okayy when we were clipping my other horse in the stable next door, it was just when they were in his stable. Hopefully the sedatives will work *fingers crossed*
