Hi all,
I have a 14hh NF pony that can be an utter git at times. He has been mine for nearly 6 years now and things were going great until this year when he became seriously ill with EMS. I seriously thought I was going to lose him, but after getting him on Metformin he's has gradually improved to be able to be ridden again.
One major problem that was previously solved was his messing around after mounting. He will let you get on just fine (the problem with him bogging off thankfully didn't return). Once you are ready to walk off though he will throw an absolute tantrum, will not move forward at all, if you put your leg on he will rear/buck, and you can forget about the whip because he will throw himself around. This can last for 30 seconds or 15 minutes at which point he does a huge sigh and begins to work as if nothing happened. Its really frustrating and only happens when hes feeling 'well'.
A little background about him that may help: been cut twice and still has the testosterone of a stallion (blood test), he has been x-rayed for kissing spines and nothing, got x-rayed when he had lami but had no rotation, his feet are amazing, physio says he's nice and loose, saddle is one that moulds to him (flocked with lambswool) and is a custom build for him which is checked every six months, up to date with dentist, jabs, unrugged, on soaked hay with no hard feed except a slice of brown bread to get his meds in him, and he is literally the most looked after beast lol After writing all that down make me feel hard done to that when im injured, I get 2 paracetamol if im lucky lol
