my pony is around 12.1 / 12.2hh .. not sure what breed but hes a stocky little guy. im around 5ft7 and weigh about 8 and a half stone. recently ive been getting a lot of greif about being too big for him which is really annoying me :/ what does everyone else think?

Too tall maybe, but not too heavy esp as he's stocky - daughter is 7stone, just over 5ft 1 and has been having centre of gravity issues when jumping her 11.2 loan pony but is otherwise fine on her for flat work/hacking, and she's capable of 9st according to owner

no i dont think your too big

if hes stocky then i am sure you weight is fine.... being 5ft 7 thou can you not wrap your legs around his belly?! :P No only joking you should be able to tell if you are too big, and if you dont think you are then you should be fine, i dont think your weight would be a problem depending on how stocky he is thou!

You may look a bit tall on him but your not to heavy. I'm 5ft2in and have just bought a new pony he is 13hh i look quite good on him as he is stocky. I also hunt a 11.2hh dartmoor sometimes and i don't look to bad on him aswell. Ignore what everyone else is saying if the pony is coping then it's ok. If he is struggling to carry you then yes you are to big. Small ponies can actualy carry more than big horses when you compare there size.
Ponies are much better than horses anyway.

yeah i agree with being too tall .. but he seems fine jumping with me. i think hes be capable of about 9-10st. haha i have but they still go on, one person even said something about pony club could report me to the rspca :|

I couldn't help but giggle at the rspca comment. I'm smaller than you but (was) the same weight and had a 13hh and brought on a 12hh pony....neither were hugely stocky but the 13hh carted off with me at every opportunity, won a xc and was placed sj all the time. The 12hh jumped 2ft6 with me and was a very happy soul, he got to see a lot of life and loved it. I wouldn't bother with what other people are saying.

dont listen to them! these ponies are way stronger than we give them credit for, i have a 13.3 pony and i am 5'6 and 9.5 stone and she manages fine!
