Looking for a pony stallion for my mare this year. She's 14.2hh NF x Appaloosa. Looking to breed something around her height as well. Any nice stallions out there that would make a nice match and compliment her. I know she's a bit sort in the neck other than that not sure on conformation. Will attach photos later

Not entirely sure how big he is, I think 14.1/2 but I saw Romulus at Hartpury Stallion parade on Sat and he impressed just about everyone there!

youtube clip here
he has only been broken a couple of weeks so is obviously a little mouthy!

Photos of the mare is a great idea so people can be more specific in their recommendations, and the more info the better. What do you hope to breed, and are you looking for something in particular - SJ, dressage, eventing? Natural or AI? Any particular part of the country? Stud fee budget?

There are many pony stallions listed on the SPSS website of various types and heights, http://www.sportpony.org.uk/stallions.shtml

You mentioned that the mare is an appaloosa cross, are you looking for a coloured stallion? If so, I have heard nice things about the 14.2 jumping pony Georgeo II but have not met him in person. http://www.stallionsonline.co.uk/stallion_15716.html

I have met Georgio II in person. Love him! He has the most fantastic temperament.

So what you think stallion wise?

Anyone? I have looked at Romulus and he's very nice. Would be nice to see what stallion people think would compliment her?

I messaged you my choices as a stallion person and a stud consultant. I still think Caesar would be my choice to improve without over altering her as she is a nice type as well as adding marketability should you want to sell your foal plus he moves and jumps.
At the pony Grading I also really, really liked Land Star and think he could work well here but you might get something a bit bigger so if you are specifically breeding for a 14.2 that might be a downside. If however you are wanting the large pony small horse that does it all that everyone says they want then he is definitely worth a look although as yet he is young so don't know if he will have stock on the ground to look at this year but I am sure someone will tell us sooner or later.
I also really like the attitude of the Knabstrup horses I worked around in Denmark and there are some nice ones available over here also on the SPSS stallion book for a start so maybe some more spotty to add to her already appy bits. That would probably end up being quite a bit chunkier so probably more an adults pony than a child. It does depend at the end of the day who the foal is intended for. I read it as you were after a repeat of her with sparkly bits and presumed she was an adults pony but if you are breeding for a small person then you could certainly look at ponies that might add some lightness and legs to her.....

Thank you very much for your reply and message all taken on board and I will be looking at them. My mare in relation to disciplines did it all and did it well. However, she lacked the sparkle and penanze in her movement. I will be looking for something for myself to ride so not a kiddy pony and I thought for a first foal it would be better to put her to a pony stallion.

My mare is a similar type, evented at PC Open/BE Novice level I used Future Illusion (Trak x TB) he's not huge. Have seen some nice Wolkenderry babies too out of pony mares. If I was breeding my mare again I think I would use Primitive Farie Tale. Kings Composer is nice too. All these are 'smaller' types

Wow he is lovely very stunning. Bit pricey though!

So true Thistle, with stud fees occasionally you find a bargain, some studs stand superb stallions for resolutely reasonable fees and thank goodness they do, some studs charge what they have to to cover costs if they only get a few mares, some stud fees are high for very specialist stallion of the hens teeth variety and some stud fees are higher because the stallions are genuinely so fabulous(also some are high because their owners are delusional but these are few and far between and more in the paying anything at all for a one eyed, three legged cob is too high a stud fee) and some people just make a loss(should put self included in this category). Generally speaking you have to decide what your budget is for stud fees and look accordingly. We are really lucky in this country in that we have a large range of different shapes and sizes and stallions available in all budgets and to do everything, if you look at our good points we really ought to be leading the world ; ). You will find something but it is worth knowing what your extra budget is as well as not writing off the cheaper ones without looking as you may well find the one you want where you least expect it. Things to be aware of though are to make sure you use a stallion that has breeding health certificates or is willing to provide them if you book, also a stud that requests the same from your mare if you take her to stud, a stud manager who can answer your questions with the right answers and who provides useful advice about getting your mare prepared for stud and also someone who is willing to try and dissuade you from using their stallion if they think he won't do what you want with your mare. Rarely happens as people do so much more homework these days.

I have just looked up on H Tobago. He looks really nice and seems like her would add some sparkle, height and refinement to my mare? What does everyone think to him as a pairing would he produce a nice sort that would do a bit of everything?

His owner is/was a member on here. If you search then you may find photos of his babies. From the ones I have seem he really stamps his stock. They are referred to as 'Tobagolings'

Have a trawl through some of these

H Tobago is lovely and I think it would certainly add sparkle to your mix but I don't think he will give you much more length of rein/neck. Other than that could be a really positive mix, I think arab/appaloosa is quite common already so you could look up some of those(possibly more in the US) and I would think arab/nf would also be easy to track down giving you some idea of what you might get.
