My little girl is now desperate for her own pony. I have thought long and hard about it and now feel that she even like to get stuck into the dirty jobs that she is ready.

I am a forever home person, so I am deffinalty looking for a pony that wil see her through to her early teenage, if possible, then either train to the cart or if old enough just retire.

She is 3 and is very serious about her rding and horses, she is currently rideing both a youngster and a very quick pony, obviously LR.

Have thought about, New forest, Dartmoor, Welsh sec C or any variety really.

Any ideas from experience apreciated.

My first was a shetland, no thanks ever again

I know that sometimes they can be quirky, but I'd recommed a Dartmoor.

We had one as my daughter's first pony, she adored him, and he was brilliant with her. In the end he went to my best friend for her daughter as we just couldn't bear to part with him, and he then taught her everything too.

Good luck in your search

My little boy was 4 when I got him his first pony, welsh sec A. He has outgrown him at 10, just height though, not weight. He can still ride him but really not for much longer. The wee guy will just retire as he is knocking on a bit. He will be with us forever.
The thing is I think you will struggle to get something to last that long. Anything bigger than a 12.2 is going to be far to big for her and be difficult to learn on.
What about trying to get something small on loan and then when she outgrows it, it can go back and you can look for something else that will last a bit longer.
Can't speak highly enough of sec A's. Mine is just amazing. Pity you're not closer, she could come up and ride my wee fella.
