I have noticed fairly frequently and it is really odd!

The Little elderly mare who I look after here for my neighbours will very suddenly wee when she is eating her bucket feed. It's weird as she seems not to realise its coming and literally head still down in the bucket she wee's.
Its not every single time she eats a feed, but maybe once or twice a day, tonight was two wee's one feed.
It just strikes me as really bizarre how she doesnt stop and stand, its like she has no idea its about to happen. I mean she does stagger her hind legs out, its not just running down her legs but i think the wee starts before she stands rather than the other way round.

Is this a old mare thing? We are at the point where no investigations are going to be done so I'm not sure if I'd get anywhere speaking to the owners or vet particularly. Getting her bute over winter was a bit like getting blood out of a stone.
Its more for my peace of mind/benefit really. Obviously if its a known sign of something terrible I will just call a vet anyway. Its very random though and I'd not be able to guarentee she'd do it if anyone came to check her.

Hopefully some mare owners may say its fairly normal!

My guess is that it's an old mare thing. An old person thing. I mean, it starts off perhaps as nearly wetting oneself when one laughs or coughs...

I did wonder if it was simply a very old age thing.

One of my geldings always has a quick wee when he see's me coming with food but its in preperation to eat not half way through a mouthful!!

Sounds like most men, you shout "dinners ready" and they disappear to the loo. They could have done that in the 5 minutes when you were dishing up!
