Well, today had been eventful...

Was on Bonnie in the morning session, practicing the test and warmup (doing Prelim 10, BD 2002). It did not go very well :( I really struggled with Bonnie (I think shes getting naughtier!), struggled getting her going forward, and our canter circles (and any bending at all) were abysmal. Cue lots of shouting from instructor, and staying behind an extra 10 minutes to run through it on B.

Safe to say, I was worried!

Then, the instrutor, L, came up and said that the YM and her had thought that i could do the test on Dawi. I wasnt fully decided untill the last minute, when we had to start grooming. L had ridden Dawi in the staff dressage test, and did well, so I thought that he would be a better option than Bonnie.

I was rushed, so had about 8/9 minutes to warm up. Obv not ideal! I struggled getting him into a consistent canter, but his ridiculously bouncy trot cheered me up. Then... I was called over...

So, out I go, into the pouring rain, in my short sleeved shirt stolen from my dad, velvet hat cover and one bouncy horse. We trotted around for what seemed like ages, before the horn sounded for me to enter the dressage arena we had marked out. I think I did the first half ok, trot up the centre line was a tad diagonal and wobbly, but we got there! Then, halfway through my test I lost the plot completely :o Cue the YM sticking her head out of the car to tell me where to go, then another of the instructors ended up calling my test.

Have to say though, Dawi's free walk is AMAZING! He really stretches down, seeking the contact, looking gorgeous, his head was almost on the floor! (not ideal I know, but its a start :)) and It felt amazing, with some watching instructors saying how good it was from the sidelines :D

After the last canter circle, we trotted round, then up the centre line again. We did a good trot-halt transition, and actually managed to stop at G, which a lot of other people didnt.

Did my salute, HUGE grin, and proceeded to burst into tears :o I was just so happy id actually done it, and come out alive!

Then, another free walk around the dressage boards, snivelling happily all the way, exited at A and back to the semi-indoor to walk Dawi off.
~

While it was nowhere near the best test, I DID IT! And I didnt fall off and die! We did have some VERY interesting and excited canters down the long diagonal, but I stayed on and enjoyed it :D

L had been very kind and plaited him up properly, so he looked fab, and I didnt look too shabby in my shirt, tie and velvet hat cover.

As I undid his plaits, balancing precariously on a bucket (Dawi's 15.2 and I am not!) I couldnt help thinking I was a very lucky teenager to be able to ride such lovely horses, and be at such a lovely yard!

So well done everyone (16 of us riders in total!) and I await my scores! (Friday :()

While it would be lovely to get a rosette, I know I tried hard, and Dawi did wonderfully. I think I might get most improved/hardest trier though!

TG xxx

P.S. The YM said that the photographer will be happy to take any pictures, so Ill try and get a really smart one of me on B :)

Well done!! You DID IT. I was thinking of you earlier and hoping you were enjoying it, whatever happens.
Well done on swapping horses so quick - thats not an easy thing to do.

Thanks Guys :D

I'm still in shock that I actually DID IT!!!

Dawi is normally much better in our lessons, I spose its cos he didnt have a bum to follow!

He is gorgeous, but his tro (and canter...) is something to be reckoned with

Thanks guys :) It wasnt too hard to swap onto Dawi, Ive ridden him quite a lot before, and as long as you have a schooling whip hes great! Bareback on him, however, is NOT fun at all. Withers sharp as a knife and ridiculous HUGE trot? Ouch!

I feel a bit guilty about not riding Bonnie, but she still did decently (I think) in the staff dressage, and we did have lots of bonding time and hugs :o

Also had a fab time stewarding the staff warm-up with another girl (who apparently goes to my school!), learnt a lot, especially watching the YM on her horse, who is a right bitey monster! Her sitting trot is AMAZING! (tho obv shes been riding since she was born, and is a professional!)

Awh photos tomorrow then!

RE: Sitting trot, work without stirrups is your best friend ;) Having said that, I could sit to trot when I was younger, but it took me 3 years to learn to sit to canter

I only started properly cantering last summer, and only this year with some style and steering!

Had a helpers lesson last sunday, rode lovely fatty cob Albert and did almost half the lesson without my stirrups! Trotting on him was SO comfy, or at least better than on Dawi (!) and hes a nice reliable pony when hes not munching on you! x

Steering isn't important ;) It's far more interesting without steering!

Fat cobs are the best for without stirrups, they are so comfy, although I rode this 12hh little git of a pony without stirrups in a lesson after he threw this girl off, I think I may of flattened him, because he didn't try his rodeo impression on me

Ack! Im sorry!

Please dont send me off to Shils' lair...;):D

Ill try and get some tomorrow (the XC is set up in Third Field, the log is HUGE!!) :D xx

The XC jumps? Theres only one that is a height I could jump :/

And I asked about the SJ, but nope, they said there wouldnt be enough time :(

Pah, keep on at them about the sj- it would take a matter of minutes (I would approximate 3) to sop the fences down a few holes! I know you love it there but seriously, rock the boat a bit and see where it gets you because they're taking the **** a bit. I know this as I have to admit my friend and I once exploited some free help at the RS we worked at, and it wasn't until she started to pipe up a bit about it that we started to pay attention and give a bit back in return for her slavish mucking out! She wasn't even good at stable duties and I'm sure you do a fab job, so BE ASSERTIVE :D

From experience, don't do the jobs first, do them afterwards-gives you more bargaining power! I'm sure some of the other people on the course would be happy to muck in and help lower the jumps for you, after all, they must be as enchanted with your enthusiasm as we all are on here! If I can convince work to send me London-way on business Friday I'll come do it in my high heels and I reckon I could do it in under 5mins!!

I am glad you're enjoying it, just remember to be a bit selfish sometimes and do things for you, not them-you're already paying them for the privilege of riding there, you don't owe them anything more:)

If I lived closer *I* would come and put the jumps down for you!

Your enthusiasm is fabulous!!!

I am very glad you are enjoying your week, and very well done on completing your test! I have been riding longer than I bear to remember, and I have only ever done 1!! I get too nervous, and end up with my lips stuck to the top of my teeth!!!

I hope the rest of the week is as enjoyable, and they really should build you your very own course!

...perhaps we should put in a HHO petition??!!

Well Done.

You don't come across as a natural rider but I really admire you for your enthusiasm and drive.

Looking forwards to your progress.

Er, how do you mean?!

Im particularly dim today, stressage is knackering :o

And thank you!

Heh, might take you up on that offer :o

Lets have a whole lot of you! :D

Hehe, maybe we should! Then they HAVE to listen!

Well done :):)

Ta :) x

Just wanted to say well done on the stressage test, and well done on Dawi too - he's not the easiest chappy when he doesn't want to be.

I should also confess I watched a bit of your pre-test dressage lesson yesterday and I thought you had Bonny going better than your post implied. Don't forget, the instructors are paid to be shouting about reins and legs but imo the overall picture didn't look terrible. (It's ok, you don't have a stalker, I was up there for a lesson before you guys took over the sand-schools).

Good luck with the SJ petitioning.

:D

How do I mean?

You aren't a natural rider.

Some people are, some find it hard...you are the latter.

Have you access to another Riding Establishment?

I mean ask first and tell them all the lovely (and not so lovely) yard jobs you'll be doing because it means so much to you. If I was your real-life friend I'd be there in a flash to assist and verbally fight your corner-you were invited onto the course, you should be provided for :)

Loving the updates though, keep em coming and fingers crossed for good news of jumpingness!

Ahh, you saw me!! :o

She was being such a cow this morning, and I was being a hopeless rider :( BUT I still love her to bits and pieces, even if she can be horrid!

How was your lesson? Do you like the yard? xx

I do see what you mean :o

There are some more I could get to, but I love this yard so much, I dont see how I could leave!

Ah thankyou AprilBlossom, I still might be in need of a jumpy fixer yet! Will let you know how it goes xx

Ahhh well done you, go girl!!:D i too love and admire your enthusiasm and attitude. Im not sure how anyone can make a judgement about your natural disposition to riding based on what's been written on an internet forum.
