Pony Week - Day 2 - The (first ever!) Stressage Test!

I do see what you mean

There are some more I could get to, but I love this yard so much, I dont see how I could leave!

............... believe me, it would be to your advantage TG. :)

Wow, well done TG! I feel all emotional for you reading your Op!!!

Thats one more stressage test than Ive ever done!!

HUGE well done xxxx

Ahhh well done you, go girl!!:D i too love and admire your enthusiasm and attitude. Im not sure how anyone can make a judgement about your natural disposition to riding based on what's been written on an internet forum.

well done lady! x

Thanks guys :) x

I dont mean to offend, but I dont really want to go to another yard. Yes, this has not been a perfect week, but this RS has improved my riding no end, and generally been lovely. I get a helpers lesson for helping out on weekends, and occasionally a free private lesson too. Not many RS's out there do this, and my riding has come on no end because of it!

And the others near me arent that great...

Seeing photos and videos, perhaps?

Ah, now dont discourage me from posting pics and videos :( I LOVE boring you all with my lesson posts etc, tis great fun!

Thanks CB!

I dont know if youve met Dawi or Bonnie yet, I must introduce you to them next time you're round! Oh, and definitely Rusty, the littlest ginger shetty ever :) Oh, and Albert... And Pally, and Theo and Trigger....!!

xx

fair enough, I havent seen any videos - but I do still think its quite a judgement to make and moreover actually state; when it will probably have an affect on the person's self-esteem ;)

TG agreed...so where is the problem?

She is getting CONSTRUCTIVE advice...not the usual "oh aren't you fab" rubbish...which, quite frankly, does her no good whatsoever.

I wouldn't say that.

She needs a little bit more than whats on offer TBH

Again, I dont mean to offend, but how do you know what kind of instructor/RS/horses etc I need? Yes, you may have seen videos and photos, but thats not the whole story.

I only ever ask for CONSTRUCTIVE advice. I generally do what Im advised to do, or at least try it out, and I like to think that some of that advice helped me to do slightly round-ish circles today, and to stay on!

You've been there, seen it, and her ride have you?

Its a nice, large yard with happy healthy horses. A wide range of experienced instructors and great facilities.

TG is learning v.quickly there and is getting many free lessons in exchange for helping out, sending her to yard out of her depth would do her more harm than good, ive made that mistake myself!!!!

I appreciate fully you are obviously offering constructive advice, but her instructor teaches a range of levels, Ive watched begginers with her as well as experienced and she really is in good hands :)

Isnt B... dare I say it!... fab!

She is amazing, doesnt let me form bad habits, and doesnt let me get away with anything!

I want to meet them all!!!! :D

You will! Next time you come to the yaaaaard.....! x

P.S. Prepare your shoulders... Trigger likes to hug! And theres honestly nothing cuter than Rusty, I bet he could match Saral or Woody for speed if he tried :D

Well done TG, I love reading your posts. Sounds like you did really well today, congratulations! I really hope you get a chance to have a bit of a zoom round the XC field (think they are VERY mean not to let you have a go at some SJ, I'll sign the petition!)

Your riding is progressing all the time - by next year you'll be giving them all a run for their money!

i dont think its constructive to tell a young girl who sparkles with enthusiam that she isnt a natural, and would be better off elsewhere. It seems negative and unnecessary to me- but I respect others opinions and don't wish to get into an argument.

Well done on completing the dressage test, I know the feeling. I started doing a bit of RC dressage a couple of years ago, the first test I did I was so nervous I cried when I finished. I am not an emotional person. I think it was an adrenaline thing. I wish you could bottle up some of your enthuisiasm and post it to me. I keep meaning to try another comp but a had a break whilst I was pregnant, and now with work and a baby the thing I like most is getting into bed and putting my head on the pillow zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You've summed up what I wanted to say but I seem to have gotten into an argument and apparently NP now wants to criticise my riding after the few seconds of video that were posted :D Feel free, I know every single one of my faults and have no illusion I'm Mary King - Who's critisicm I'd be happy to hear! You can keep yours!!! :p

I soo did not do well, but at least I tried! The YM having to call my test fromt he judges car was just a tad embarrassing :o

Hehe, well see what they say tomorrow, eh? x

And...what I said earlier.

I'm sure you could achieve alot more with better tuition.

Is that a problem/crititism? I don't think so..

Im afraid we'll have to agree to disagree there..

I was just so happy and so relieved it was over! Ive never cried happy-tears like that before, and I was so proud of Dawi, even if we didnt exactly canter circles, he tried! The arena was quite small and hes a big lump, tho thats no excuse! :)

Hey TG - congrats on doing your dressage test. I know what you feel like with the nerves- my first ever showing show I was riding for someone and the owners of the horse were worried about me because I'd gone a funny grey colour - they thought I was going to faint, straight off their dales pony!

Also FWIW I think your riding school sounds really good (apart from the showjumping bit this week). When I learnt to ride my riding school was truely rubbish, I still had so much fun but I was pretty much taught to be a "kick-pull" rider and I never focused on things like bend and riding a good circle! I get the feeling you're a bit of a perfectionist (as seen from your GCSE results) and it's obvious you want to ride properly and correctly not just any old how. That will be a fantastic foundation, I've had to almost re-learn how to ride to be more refined and accurate (I remember going to a swanky Surrey riding school and the instructor looking a bit horrified, I would have been able to stay on and deal with a naughty horse but schooling exercises that needed accuracy and correct bend and aides and things eluded me!).

I'm currently training my just-broken pony and it's only now I feel that I am really aware of how I ask for bend - and that's because I need to teach him (and my instructor explains it really well to me). The fact that you are focussing on doing things correctly as you learn means you will have a great foundation from which to progress.

Hope you have a good rest of the week :)
