Pony weight loss...ideas

Having just got back my 11hh welsh a ,Iweighed him today 260kg he is soooooo fat. He gets no hard feed and is not ridden as unbacked I really want him to loose weight and quite a bit. Ground still to wet to lunge so any ideas?

personally i use a grazing muzzle, and do lots of inhand walking. Take him for miles on and off road. It will help him lose weight and get him bombproof.

A bare paddock and hay in a small haynet works for my pot-bellied shetland.

Can you ride and lead him? A longish steady ride out with another is good but only if he's well behaved on the lead - or off.....

A quick way would be to run it off him. I.e put a safe horse in the paddock and encourage them to gallop about a bit.

ride and lead - do it first in the school before you do it out on the roads - most horses will accept it
