Time to pick some brains if you would be so kind...

We have a new(ish) pony in the family... a Welsh Sec C age 6, standing 13.2hh

Now my problem.... to me she appears rather "chunky"....whispers fat!!

Is there anywhere out there amongst us.... a ready made chart/graph to record and monitor her weight....ideally a graphical type....
I could make one...but tbh I just can't get my head round the design of it nor find the patience to sit down and compile it. Keep getting distracted on hho... or the works mobile!!

Awaits patiently for the knowledge of HHO users!!

Ta crazy,

TBH and frank...she's bloody fat! Had very little tlc from previous owner/rider...
Managed to get a lot of groundwork done... spoilt her, developed a bond, however...the time has come to bring the weight down!!

Ribs...feel....errr.... nope (i know!!)... problem is she's also become very very wooly in the winter coat, so the eye is slightly decieving...
Weight tape wise.... a steady 402kg just going off a girth reading only!

I would definitely suggest you go off more condition scoring of ribs, neck and bum to assess her weight. Weigh taping is great for monitoring whether they are gaining, losing or maintaining, but for ascertaining whether they are in the correct condition, then condition scoring is best.

Ahh, well get your walking legs on then. Sounds like you are going to be off long lining and lunging a fair bit! Or long walking hacks are good for building fitness and dropping a few pounds

Feeling somewhat wonderous now.....

Looking at the condition scoring on the saracen link...
She's most def a 5 touching 6..... would appear she may not be that bad....or am i wrong!!

I'd print it off, then take it to the pony and start prodding and poking. Memory is notoriously deceptive.

Not the best pic....but Fat or not???

A little tubby, but looks very much like a Welsh Sec C!

You said you can't feel her ribs, is that just running your hands over or with a bit of pressure - you need a bit of pressure.

From that pic, she doesn't look like she has fatty pads behind her shoulders nor a gutter along her rump. Can't really see her neck to say.

However thats going from a photo - do you have an instructor or friend who would give you an impartial opinion and be able to feel too?

Oh indeed..... I know the answer myself like..... been handling and working with em long enough.....
however..... ponies and sec c's are a whole new ball game!!
And besides I'm a little bias...reckon she's ran with my heart this one... can't do anything wrong lol!

Umm no gutter...pretty flat... with a bit more than the norm pressure wise her ribs are there!!.. however I'm used to dealing with gypy cobs/shires (big un's in other words)...
Impartial...not really.... long story.... apparently when taken on.... I'd never be able to correct her... wild... useless... you know the story!

Nice pony. She is a little tubby, but not horrendously. Could do with some work to get fitter really, and get toned up.
