I posted yesterday how there are parts of my field horses won't eat. People are suggesting it may have beeb used as a toilet by previous horses.

I have a 11.2hh pony who has ems. I have sectioned a bit of bare patch off for him and I feed him hay. With winter here now it won't be long until his section turns into a bog.

I had a thought of section of the part horses refuse to eat as that way it will hold up longer as the grass is tall and continue to feed hay.

My worry is once winter really kicks in if he decides to nibble this grass can it harm him?

I dont think it will harm him, my shetlands dont have toilet areas as they eat everything, and it hasnt harmed them, plus tall, winter grass doesnt have the much sugers in it. Much better than him being in a bog.

All horses will not eat latrined areas. Sour. Instead of sectioning of a small patch, section off a track around that paddock. This way he gets:

1. Movement
2. A selection of grasses (although hay better for EMS)

You'll have to poo pick regularly but it gives you flexibility to add gravel areas to the boggy bits so that the pony has somewhere dry to stand in winter.
