Pony with grading Points

My daughter is desperate to do Pony Trials in probably her last season on her pony of a lifetime, as shes growing fast and will probably be onto horses by the end of the summer. I've just realized that if she gets a single double clear in a PT (Novice) this excludes him from doing any BE90 or BE100's in the future with a new owner, although he will be able to do the Open classes. Are there any other repercussions I'm missing in BS or Pony Club? I don't want to be mean but I am a bit worried about his resale value and don't want to condemn him to only Pony Trials in the future :-( Any thoughts or advice?
 
He will have more value as a pony that can jump double clear round a pony trial than a pony that hasn't got the scope IMO
 
If he is good enough, has a decent record in 90/100 and then proves himself with several good runs in PT/ Novice I would expect his resale value to reflect this and he should find another capable ambitious young rider, they can start in open classes or go HC to get the runs required, it is more of an issue if he fails to complete and appears to be limited to 90/100's has a poor record at that level or has a weak phase, plenty of ponies will have a point or two yet still maintain a high value if they do a good job in general, I wouldn't hold your daughter back if they genuinely have the ability to do well.
Someone I know had a team pony that sold for £££s he goes back down to 90/100 open and works back up to 1*/ PT/ ON over a year or two before being passed on to the next rider, he now has 30+ points and at some point will probably be downgraded as he is getting older.
 
Being a pony he is likely to be ridden by u18s, and he will still be eligible for BE100u18s even with a few points. So will still have something to work towards and qualify for at the lower levels. (Do double check the rulebook though, as haven't checked the eligibility rules this year, but certainly used to be the case).
 
I guess you have already entered as the March PTs have already balloted?

If your daughter is keen and pony is up to it, then do it. My daughter did two years and although never in contention for a place on the team, got some good results and thoroughly enjoyed the exerience. It put loads on the value of the pony and he was sold to a lovely family for their daughter who didn't want to do PTs but wanted a safe sane multi-talented pony.

Thanks, yes we have entered, Oasby and Aldon) although I keep hearing mixed reviews about Oasby, so bit worried about that being our first! Thanks for the feedback, good to know as I wouldn't have stopped her, but did worry about him only being able to do PT afterwards as its a lot for them long term :-)
