My mare’s poo’s are like cow pats! Checked all the usual things & vet not worried as she’s been like this for years although I’ve only owned her for three months. For every three poo’s one will be like a cow pat. Whilst she is happy & ulcers and medical conditions ruled out its driving me crazy. She’s grey and has a constant poopy tail and legs. Some people have suggested probiotics added to feed or gut balancers, but I’m at a loss to know what to try first. Any ideas or recommendations. Thanks
FYI she’s out during Day, in at night & currently just on ad-lib hay at night & nothing has changed lately.

Supplements will drive you mad! I know they do for me! There are just so many! Best I've found to work for firm poop is pink mash as base feed which has protexin in and yeasacc but every one is different. Protexin gut balancer on its own is £15 a tub I think. There are so many though, it's a minefield. Does she get any hard feed?

No hard feed. She’s a cob who could put weight on with fresh air! She’s always been like this and previous owner was never bothered about it.

My mare is the same. I tried all kinds of supps.... basically I was pooing money up the wall and some made her worse, some made her slightly better. I was told that this is her genetic makeup, it's her "normal". It is who she is.

I've stopped worrying about it now. Yes her tail is disgusting but I'm not going to lose my **** over it.

You could try natural yoghurt (cheapest possible as less additives). I had one earlier in the year who had runny poo and started chewing wood. Gave him yoghurt mixed in chaff for about 10 days (From memory it was 4 dessert spoons twice a day). He improved within days, and was back to normal within a week or so.

I bought a cob mare a few months ago, and had a similar issue. She's grey as well so I feel your pain!
My vet ruled out any medical problems and we think it had been a change in environment plus she was in pretty poor condition I stuck her on a prebiotic and within a few weeks she now has "normal" poo and a clean tail

I recently used Protexicin Quick fix paste which was brilliant. My Horse doesn't get hard feed so supplements are hard to give. The paste cost £8 and lasts 3 days if you give 10ml or 6 days if you do 5ml. I did the higher dose over 3 days and it worked a treat.
