poo eating horse???

today i was rather disgusted to see my boy eating a bit of his freshly done poo. just wondered if anyone else had seen or heard of anything like this before?

yes my eventer used to do it. I think it means they are looking for something, a vit or min they are lacking. I was told to feed my boy seaweed and it did the trick and its not expensive so no harm done!

is it not something to do with electrolytes?May be way off the line, but in that case that would by why the salt works

most companies do a simple seaweed supplement so its dried and crushed etc. or you could just try a general everyday supplement. i would add salt too.

hmm just we are right by a beach and sometimes when we go down he likes to eat the seaweed. he is rather large at the moment though so he isnt really geting a feed he only gets a couple handfuls of happy hoof because his field mate my friends horse is getting bute for his injured leg. will try adding salt though and hopefully it will work. although as my friends horse is injured he is gettin a vet out everyday could ask them they should have an idea of what he might be lacking.

however he may just be weird we caught him licking blood last week after friends horse was injured. asked vet about that one and just said it was nothing to worry about

My old girl used to do this i remember the vet saying it was a difficiancy (sp) i remember they told me to feed her live yogart! maybe that was just my vet!!!
