Hi i have a strange question!
If i put the poo from my horse who has recently had ringworm (all treated and gone, fingers crossed) in the yard muck heap, is there a chance of other horses picking up the ringworm fungus? The muck heap has been moved into one of the fields and fenced off but one of the other horses loves being in there. Can he get it from nosing about in the muck? Also will this contaminate the field?
I can't find anywhere that says ringworm is carried in poo. (its not a worm!)

Not sure, but i wouldnt have thought it was a good idea for a horse to be playing in the muck heap anyway?? I would try to fence it off a bit more securely if possible as i dread to think what they can pick up by nosing around in other horses poo.

The heap move is a temporary work in progress, but other owners saying i shouldn't have been using the main muck heap anyway. I thought ringworm was a skin infection, not carried internally?

ringworm is infection of skin not infestion of actual worms internally so will be fine - you need to check brushes and things its touched so as not to infect another horse.

Taking this further then, if i walk my horse around the yard, not going near any other horse, what are the chances of infection? My horse has not had any new ringworm for nearly 4 weeks and has been treated as per vets instructions.
