Poo Picking. How and how often?

big winter field gets harrowed but summer paddocks have to be poo picked its up to us how often we do it we get given our summer paddock and its up to us if we look after it or not.

I used to be really lazy and do it every couple of weeks and moan that it took ages and I got blisters. Then I got my mini shetland so was doing it everyday because i had 2 to do but then I had my old boy pts so i do it 1/2 times a week now because I have just got the mini shetland now she only does 2/3 poo's a day and all in 1 place so dont really see the point in taking a wheel barrow up the field for that everyday I could leave it over a week and still not fill a wheel barrow.

Average sized paddock with one 15.2hh ISH, I pooh pick maybe once or twice a month and gather up usually about 5 barrow loads piled high. My mare seems to do poohs the size of an elephants and is quite tidy so not too bad.

I know it may be a little late for you all. I use a company called Equiserve, they are based in Lancashire. They come once a week to collect the muck off my fields. The fields look really well once they have been. They use a machine that sweeps the muck up. Reason I know this is because they sweep around my midden when thay have finnished. You never know it might help somebody. This is the website from their business card they left me. www.equineserve.co.uk

Every day in the summer as they are out 24/7, it's only a 2 acre field with 3 horses so we try to keep it poop and weed free so there is as much grass as poss, in the winter when they are in at night only a couple of times a week...plus it's normally too wet to get a barrow down there!!!

Interesting, hadn't noticed last night. Funny how some really old posts have come back to life recently.

Our YO has staff to poo-pick daily with a quad bike and trailer. Did have a demo of a sweeper but it took up the loose top soil too
