Poo picking in winter

Interesting thread.
I gave up today ! We had 2" snow overnight, and even though I could have got the quad into fields, it was impossible to see the poo, never mind the fact it was welded to the ground !
Everything is now onto hay and haylage, so not actually eating grass.
We poo pick religiously every day from about March to October. Like alot on this forum I hate seeing stacks of poo lying around fields - makes the place look uncared for. Never mind worm burden.

If I poo picked it would be like painting the Forth Bridge, life is simply too short.

I have on average 20 horses over 40 or so acres.
They each do what? 10 piles each a day?
No way on God's green earth am I wandering about looking for 200 piles a day :o

I harrow. In winter I don't do anything because the stuff is concreted to the ground.

To those who push a barrow, pull a sled, or trolley - much easier to pull than push ;)

we have to poo pick, landlords orders! but when the field gets real muddy we do just pick up the poo's we can see and get to easily, if they're in a muddy patch we ignore them and hope they've got walked into the mud before spring :D

Thankfully on sandy soil, so when the grounds dries after a day or two I try and poo pick. I did 6 wheelbarrows in one day and also despise a field full of poo! But when it's wet I don't bother as the field is miles away from the muck heap!

I got a plastic sledge to use in the mud last winter to pull hay out to the fields as I couldn't get a barrow through the gateways. We also used it with a large tub trug on top for poo picking. It was definitely easier than a wheelbarrow.

We still poo pick every couple of days at the moment but with all the tick mud etc its getting harder and harder to do :(
Our landlord likes it to be done frequently so we do as much as possible but I think we may have to give it up as a bad job before long.
