Poo picking on public highway

Find this deeply depressing - I just feel that the countryside gets more and more full of suburbanites who have no understanding for or love of country pursuits. We had some people (townies) in our village who bought a house backing on to fields, and then complained endlessly to the farmer that his cows were noisy and smelled!!! WHY oh WHY do these people ever move to the country??

I think in this case the best thing to do is to keep cool, explain that living in the country they are bound to get horse poo, mud etc outside their house from time to time, and remind them that (a) horse poo is vegetarian and (b) good for their garden. Ask them if they buy compost/fertiliser from their local garden centre - point out that you've just given them some fertiliser for free!
 
I was once out on a ride on my sisters gelding we went through the local town and he decided to go toilet infront of a cafe full of people, they all started laughing.......how embarassing!
something when they poo infront of someones driveway it can cause some filthy looks from the house owner.
 
Rufusbluemoon, totally agree about townies. I have always lived in the countryside and had horses, dogs etc but why do people who hate these things want to come and live here? If they want to live on a pristine private estate surely they should stay there? I mean we wouldn't move to an upmarket estate and immediately start complaing that we couldn't hear enough birds singing, or cows lowing or see any horses in fields would we?

I blame all these property programmes on the television. They are making townies feel that they are missing out on something (which obviously they are!) by not living in the beautiful countryside. Trouble is what they don't show them is all the mud, huge farm machinery, noisy animals etc so they must get a huge shock when everything isn't as perfect as they thought it would be! We should feel sorry for them really I supose .........

oh purplease! I'd be absolutely screwed if we had to pick it up as Pidge poos at a phenomenal rate, on one epic 3 hour hack I stopped counting when we got over 10! IMO horse poo is just part of living in a horsey area. It doesn't stay long on the road anyway so what's the problem? footpaths are for walking on and roads are for driving on. I'm afraid if someone asked me to pick Pidge's poo up then I'd probably just burst out laughing

I just tell them to get used to it or move out of the country! I did have one guy once have a go at me for polluting the environment, and he started a whole rant about it being toxic and he could go blind, so I just pointed out that was Dog poo, horses are herbivores, and if he eats mushrooms did he know what they were grown in and if he doesnt wash them he is in fact eating horse poo and he is not dead is he.

If that horse owner does anything to that lady on the horse, and the horse freaks out she could be in BIG trouble, so u might want to point that out to her, as how would hse feel if she made the horse spook and it hit a car?

As its the public highway and council property, and there are no laws regarding this, I would remind her of such. I know tractors, dropping loads of mud have to put warning signs up and try and clear it, but for horses there are no laws.

You cant please everyone, and this person, if all they have to grumble out is is horse poo, lead a very boring life. If they do turn the hose on a horse and rider, they will have a very expensive court case.
 
as i said it got very heated and i stuck up for us horsey folk and pointed out that they had no leg to stand on..... and if they started scaring and winding up horsey, they would be the one in trouble.
In end i said put up notice and provide a shovel and bag!!!
 
Bet they wouldn't have a go at a mounted police officer about the poo left by their horses! I live in Cardiff city centre and on match days there's always poo on the roads but somehow I can't see the police jumping off and scooping it up even though it's on the streets of the capital! And that goes to prove there's nothing illegal or hazardous about horse poo or they would be obliged to pick it up.
My OH swears he once a police horse who started having outside Cardiff central train station, only to be made to walk on by its rider and pee into a drain!

my thoughts are they should slither back to whatever city they came from....TWATS i would shove it through thier letterbox, i really really hate people like this, soon we will have no countryside at all.

Kibob and I got collared by a Policeman about Kibobs horse pooing on the road!
We thought he was joking but soon realised he wasn't.
Kibob asked him several times "Was it against the law for a horse to poo on the road"? He would not answer. He was worried that he may skid on a horse pooh whilst out on his Motobike. Kibob informed him that that was what handles bars were for,,,,steering around obstacles!! LOL.

We couldn't believe it!

We actually spoke to the other local Policeman afterwards and he was seriously embarrassed! Infact whilst saying "Well, you know I have to respect my colleagues and he is very good at his job,,," he was doing the motion of a man pleasing himself!! PMSL!!

The argument I have had over and over again is "Well Dog owners have to pick up their Dog poo"! Which of course I answer and put them straight.

I live at the end of a road with 7 other houses. If the horses poo in the area of the houses then I will go and pick it up, just being polite, plus there are 2 year old twins and I woulnd't want them playing with it! But anywhere else I just leave it. It doean't do anyone any harm and it always disapears fairly quickly.
 
When I was a child there was a stampede from the house owners to pick up any deposited poo.Some of them were out the door and armed with poo picking up equipment as soon as the heard clip clop in the distance

-. Al poo was welcomed and was distributed in their rose gardens. Make you wonder if these (modern day) people poo poo or poo little self sealing, odour free packages, tied up with ribbons! How do they manage to wipe their bums without throwing up? Sorry, I couldnt resist it

I had a letter from the Parish council cause my boyfriends horse poo poo on the foot path. They said it was not aloud quoting some law etc. I did ring up and say it was not my horse yet they wrote to me! I contacted DEFRA and they sent me some details, apparentely if commercial Poo it must be disposed of properly but.... wait for it ... Pets are excluded. I never did contact the parish again but will be waiting with my paperwork and photos of poo and footpath, if they dare to write to me again. I did ring up the foot path people in winchester, they thought it daft tooo....
some people. !!!
 
Eeee that happens round here. People get stopped for no reason, one policeman will start being arsey, the other sat there embarrassed.

Back to original post: that's pretty scarey that they'd consider using a hose pipe- how dangerous!

Well my horse can s**t for England, on average he does about 6 droppings when we are out on a hack. I don't understand how he generates so much, but then he is a big boy! So if I had to clear up after him I would need a big bag!

I've been given some disapproving looks from the Townies that now live in the Village, but the day I pick the droppings up then the local racehorse trainer can clear up after his 40 racehorses!
