Had a lovely time today poo picking my horse's field. What makes it really pleasant is that he insists on following me like a lost puppy and helpfully points out ones I've missed or produces some more if he doesn't think I've done enough. I no longer use a wheelbarrow as he likes to play with them too.
What fo other forum readers horses do when they poo pick. My other horse just ignores me and stuffs his face so being followed and 'helped' is lovely.

Depends what mood Rocks is in - if hes in a hyper mood he'll follow me, occasionally shaking his head and squeeling. If hes in an annoying mood he will follow me, start chewing on the wheelbarrow and promptly push it over....and if hes far too busy eating he'll ignore me.

I now tend to do it while hes in the stable having his dinner!!

Well I don't poo pick - I harrow. And my herds follow me around when I am doing this - sadly they are always on the wrong side of the harrow line!

Chancer likes to follow me around sniffing and inspecting each poo as it goes into the barrow. He sometimes likes to tip it out to inspect the lot

Cairo comes over for an initial cuddle and scratch and follows and grazes a short distance away in case a minty cube appears or I am going to the gate and he can come into his stable - he hates living out for too long at a time.

I actually like wandering round the field on a warm evening with the boys following - very peaceful.

Also poo picking allows me to walk the whole field looking out for ragwort and removing any that dares to show up.

My shettie always waits till my back is turned and then pretends he needs a good ol scratch but really all he wants is to knock the wheelbarrow over..he tries it everytime!

My two come and inspect what I am doing, if they don't think I have enough they give me more..... once the QA aspect is done then it is cuddle and ichy scratchy time.

I find it quite theaputic bazaarly and get a real feeling of "whoo hoo" when I have got all the blinking rag out ( and I seem to have a lot !!)

just realised how sad I sound..... I really MUST get out more

Current horse doesn't "help" - thank goodness but the youngster belonging to someone who posts on here and shares the field with me (!), used to delight in "helping" - bless him!! He always ended up with at least one front foot (and often two) in the barrow which he would knock over at least twice during each poo picking session - little love!! Picking it up once is bad enough but twice . . . He never took the hint and b*ggered off even when I yelled at him! He seemed to think it was great fun!!!!!

im surrounded by 8 nosy horses, a couple of which try to 'help' by pawing at piles with their front feet,

I use a poo sucking up machine, towed behind a quad bike....by far the very best horsy item i have ever ever invested in....its a god send and my troop just follow me round trying to swing on the chains on the machine !!
If anybody is thinking of getting one....do it....you will never regret it !!

Well i poo pick using my quad bike and trailer as i have so many to do (7 at the moment). So they all love coming over to have a nose and then some wander off and some follow me. Super_Kat's Allie loves following me, shes a big soppy puppy.

This post made me feel so much better- I'm not the only one out there who a) finds poo-picking therapeutic
b) has pony who revels in tipping over a barrow load at least 2-3 times per session!!!

Yes, definitely therapeutic (like hoovering!). It's mindless, you don't have to think about, it's great on a lovely day (ok, not so so good when it's raining/cold) and the field looks great when you've done it!

But . . . why DO they have to tip the barrow over??????

theyre so nosy, they have to have a look in it. when i muck out my stables and empty the barrow i have to go past a geldings box i have to stop because he likes to lean over his door and smell the barrow of poo!
