What is smaller a toy or a minature(if there's such a thing?)

What are their temprements like? Anything to look out for etc? Anyone own one?
Saw a gorgeous little poodle that was this amazing apricot colour and thought it would be a good dog for my mum if she ever wants another when she retires.

toys are the smallest (under 11inches tall), where miniatures are up to 15 inches tall-- and then standars are over 15 inches. In Europe, they have another category between miniatures and standards, called Medium (Moyen) by the FCI which is 14-18 inches.
