Hey, just wondering why my youngster is poohing on his yummy hay then reaching over the wall to eat the top of the really not very nice hay the horse next door gets?? Didn't do this at the old yard and he's settled in new yard 2 months. He does eat the hay eventually, it's really good fresh hay.

No real reason, may be its him being awkward doing the opposite of what his mum wants!

If the other hay isnt as nice maybe he just likes the company of eating with another horse.

Why don't you invest in a hay bar or a hay net? The grass is always greener on the other side, hasn't he told you that?! He is probably going to pig the other horses hay and has made his mark on his so nobody else would want it anyway, that way he has hay all night.

A haybar could be the answer or an improvised version if you dont want to buy one - there's some threads on here suggesting alternative ways.

Less wastage then as well, I tried feeding mine off the floor but he mixed it into his bed too much and then would eat his straw as well so i'm back to large haynets for the time being. The horse next door to me reaches over to his neighbours hay - YO put up a board so he cant reach over into the next stable.

I would imagine the pooing is accidental but he might prefer the grotty hay next door. :D Perhaps the other hay is sweeter or something.

Thanks for the replies. I've been eyeing up hay bars since they were launched but I move a fair bit so don't think every yard would let me drill holes and they're a little dear to leave one at every yard - one day I'll have my own place!!
He has a very large stable at the new yard and he's much messier than the last yard, he is very cute though so all is forgiven.
