Stella and Prince wave paws from their summer abode. They are currently enjoying life on a couple of acres and morning walks at the beach.

My question concerns Stella and the eating of turkey poop. We have wild turkeys around here and they like to leave their calling cards all over the lawn. Is eating the poop of other animals particularly harmful? She has sampled rabbit, horse and goose poop before, but these have all been snacks on a walk, whereas this is more of an open buffet situation.

My sister-in-law had to stop Crow dog from free-roaming their farm, as she was throwing up after eating horse poop (presumably because of wormers etc.) but Stella has suffered no such effects. I don"t want to stick her on a leash/keep her indoors, but will do so if anyone tells me it's *really* bad for her.

PS She is still walked twice a day, plus ball time, so I think this is a gourmand's issue rather than a boredom issue ;)

It probably tastes yummy :o

Dunno about turkey poop, I'm a bit anal about poop eating (obviously I'm anal about most things :p) because of the possibility of picking up worms and what have you, they pick up sheep/horse poo some times but I try not to let them eat any and ask them to drop it (one poop, ALL poop!) but I can't imagine turkey poop causing problems if they are free range, well, maybe it might give them the runs :p

Yep. These suckers are wild. They're lovely things, not at all like the wild turkeys I've seen over here before.

No runs a week in--still perfect Stella poops. Maybe I need to get the hose out, though, if she persists. She completely ignores my long-range "leave-it". Another interesting fact about turkey poop: your dog can roll in it fifty times a day and remain odourless. Small blessings and all that.
