My dachshund is 14 months. He's never been a good eater but would normally finish his dinner eventually. I've never fussed over him - dinner goes down and he gets nothing else. I even cut him down to one meal a day as he wouldn't eat in the mornings. He has a complete dried with a little tinned to make it more attractive.
Over the last month or so he has become a bit of a brat with his eating. Dinner goes down and he won't touch it. He can go three days without eating, then has no energy for walks. It got to the point where I started buying the little foil trays to mix in; he liked them for one day and then went back off his food. In other ways he seems healthy - when he has eaten he is energetic and loves his walks. His coat is soft and shiny and his eyes bright. But he is quite thin now - he was always slim but if he were a horse he'd have quite a poor condition score - ribby, backdone prominent, etc.
He's wormed regularly, and can't be eating elsewhere as there's only me at home, but I'm at a loss as to how to get him to eat. I don't want to start spoiling and pandering but he can't keep losing weight like this. His booster is due on Saturday so I'll ask the vet what he thinks then. Until then, anyone have any good ideas?
