Hi, This is my first time on the doggy bit of HHO, so Im hoping that you can help!!
My JRT, Pippa, who is nearly 5, was playing with my friends 10month old cocker this evening out on a walk, we were practicing recal from play, so both called them back to us, Wills (friends dog) loped back to her, but Pippa yelped and held her left hind up. I went over thinking that she had pulled a nail or stood on a thorn, I checked her pads,nails etc but nothing seemed amis. She had the same problem back in the spring when she fell down the stairs (trying to kill the postman!) she was given anti-inflams by the vet which made no difference and eventually came right in about 10 days on restricted exercise. Theres no pain/heat/inflamation on palpation, and she flexes it completely normally, just wont weight bear....Opinions and advice very gratefully received!!! She seems quiet and fed up, but not in pain as such.

Think another trip to the vets is in order. My Rottie went very lame but x rays showed she had pulled a muscle in her shoulder that held a small bone in place. 6 weeks of very restricted movement. Hugely difficult with a hyper dog! Hope it is nothing quite so severe.
 
Hmmm, I thought it may be a cruciate (sp??) ligament, but when she did it before the vet ruled this out because if the lack of pain on palpation/flexation...I'll nip her off to the vets tomorrow and see what they think to her, hoping anti inflams will put her right! Shes sulking on the sofa at the moment - she had her tea up there and Im carrying her about so that she isnt straining it too much...not easy when you have 2 flights of stairs and a 17 foot landing! Oh well, poor Pips! x
 
Well, we duly went off to the vets, different one this time, she thinks it could be a torn/partially torn cruciate ligament, or even her knee cap popping out and back, although there wasnt a great deal of movment in the knee. She said that as Pips is such a muscular dog on her back legs and over her hips that it will be difficult to pin point exactly what was amiss without scans etc. She has given me Metacam liquid to put on her tea for 7-10 days and she is going back on the 18th for a check over and booster jab (Im naughty and let her vaccs lapse, so got it done whilst there).
Fingers crossed she should come right on just the metacam like she did last time, although she is obv going to be prone to problems in this leg now.
Shes loving all the fuss and attention, although wasnt too chuffed when I fell up the stairs carrying her last night! x
 
Haven't replied because I didn't have any advice, but I did cross my fingers, for a little while before I started texting again.

About the carrying, I can only confess to having put my late Buhunds in a pram when they've been ill, but still not ill enough to accept that the others got to go for walks without them ( such as the day after a big surgery ). Turned quite a few heads on people spotting a Buhund lying or sitting, viewing the world over the edges of the pram.
