Our 2 year old colt came in with a swollen face earlier this week, he has also dropped a lot of weight and can't eat properly. Got vet straight out and have been mushing feed for him to lick up and injecting him with antibiotics since then. Vet has just been back but his jaw is still thickened so has to go in for xrays. Now I am panicking! He has never travelled alone, box is off the road on a sorn, trailer is horrible, we are not insured............I'm now waiting for the vet to call to tell me when he has to go in. I thought he seemed better, he has been chewing a little hay which he couldn't do before, and has been eating loads. He seemed so much brighter in himself but it looks like that could just be the painkillers masking his pain. We don't know if he has had a kick to the face or if it could be an abcess so just have to wait and see.

Think pos, hes eating, hes cheerful even if that is the painkillers. Either trailer him or (maybe better) get a transporter to take him, they have nice boxes and he will be comfy. The horspital will deal with his prob and everything will be ok............lots of healing thoughts....remember you are probably more bothered than he is now he has you at his beck and call and all the treats he can suck :-))

Thanks all, Im glad they are going to xray him, I was worried it would be something that will flair up again in the future if not sorted properly now so pleased they are going to get to the bottom of it at this early stage but soooo worried about him travelling. Im going to look at hiring a small box as I think they are probably more suited to small ponies than trailers (ours anyway) and the big boxes.
