Well got tb mare in last night, removed her rugs to find her with lots of small scabby lumps and lots of large lumps (filled palm of my hand).

We are not sure if she had these when she came on Sunday, i know that sounds bad but she was drenched in sweat and very poor looking even though she hadn't travelled far.

We think the larger lumps may be allergy to something we are feeding her? So are taking things out of her feed one thing at a time to see whether they go away - might be wrong but Madhector did you have this problem with Jerry?

What might the little lumps be - the look a bit like bites?

Patches has the same things at the moment.

They aren't bothering her. They're behind her shoulders on both sides. I've recently changed her feed, so I've cut that out. She's not over rugged, doesn't sweat up when exercised so I can't see as it can be a heat rash? Very confused over it.

Megan has these as well, along her stomach and sides.
I've put it down to a protein overload, so have put her back on a fibre-only diet, and am waiting to see if they go down

Yup my TB mare and two others at my yard have the same scabby lumps on them (they are sticky and you can pick the scab off). They've only appeared this week - I think my horse might be too warm so will be changing her rug to see if that helps (she's a hot horse at the best of times so she's never over rugged anyway) but not sure exactly what's causing them, nothing in her regime has changed.

My Welshie went down with exactly the same sort of thing in the Autumn of last year. He suddenly broke out with big insect like bites (but different sizes) all over his neck and shoulders. But he was also itching his mane out every year (which we assumed to be SI). Got him allergy tested, the one where they inject tiny allergens into the skin to see what reacts and apparently he's allergic to crazy things! GRASS! Dustmites and hay moulds

So, might well be an idea to get him tested...

It'll definately be a food allergy I expect.
My old TB had the same problem. I would take your horse off of all feed, maybe just feed something very simple like readigrass to keep ticking over. Once all the lumps are gone, start reintroducing the feed types one by one, with a good 3-4 day break in between introducing the next one and you will get an immediate effect when you reintroduce the one that's causing the problem. My mare was allergic to Bailey No.4. I switched to Allen and Page Calm and Condition which did exactly the same but without a certain ingredient et voila...

I have the same problem infact went to put my mare out this morning and her neck and face were covered in lumps! Not nice to look at but she gets them on her stomach occasionally but they seem to go away after a couple of days. I am not fortunate enough to change feeds etc as my pony has to be kept on a high protein diet due to a deficiency and I have only been able to find one that doesn't send her loopy! If you are willing to get her checked for allergies I would but this isn't something I have done yet.

Yep, have same problem with J, thought we had cracked it with changing his diet, but noticed yesterday another couple of bumps

Vet didnt want to go down the allergy testing route yet, and advised me to try D+H equine sensitive to see how he is on that. His arnt scabby though and they seem to go within 3 days of emoving what ever is causing them, although right now I have no idea what that is.

Case of trial and error with the feed then to get rid of the large lumps...

No idea about the small scabby ones that look rather like big insect bites!

Will be getting her in again tonight so will see whether they have gone down at all.
