Sort of following on from Mizelz' post about castration, I admit I've been putting off getting Herman done. So I bit the bullet just now and booked him in.

Having them off next Friday (18th). All they've really said is to starve him from midnight the night before and have him in for 9am - I asked if he was still alright to have his walk that morning and they said yes (we'll maybe avoid the river and woods...) but that was it.

I know they have to be kept quiet afterwards for a few days (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) but other than that, is it life as normal? Assume he still has the same tea as he'd normally have and not chicken (we gave the cat tuna after he got neutered and he won't touch the stuff now) or similar. Will he have to wear a collar? He is the sort who would pull stitches (or whatever they have) for the hell of it.

I know he needs to be done, I know it's better for him, I appreciate it (might) help with the recall etc so why am I being a bit meepy over it?! I'm off work that day as well so can't even take my mind off it that way!

My fella wore a buster collar and short on-lead walks for ten days (although he had a camera up there too :o so more stitches)

I was relieved to have it done TBH, he settled a lot easier, didn't really change his character that much, and two less things to get infected!!!

Don't worry about starving him, dogs aren't really designed to be full up all the time anyway :)

Snip snip snip:p

When I first met young Henry he had just been done.... 'should I keep him quiet' I foolishly asked as he launched himself at my stomach in a flying tackle (boom boom, see what I did there?) then proceeded to pull my arm out of its socket all the way up the lane...:D

I know  I'm being ridiculous. Doubt the dog will even notice. I'm sort of relieved he's booked in (I'm terrified he'll get away from me entirely and sh*g himself stupid) but his breeders were on about using him as a stud dog for a while so I'm sort of disappointed he won't be.

I am an idiot. I know I am. But I still feel weird!

:freak: :ridiculouslyattatched:

B was bought as a pet and his sister was bought as a breeding prospect. We knew he was going to be unsuitable when he was purchased and his sister just hasn't turned out.
If I want something from those lines again, I know where to go and it is easy enough to pick up similar lines if his breeders want to. Don't sweat it.

Oh, I know - and he was never bought as a breeding prospect anyway, which is what makes me even more ridiculous

I think I can buy him a new toy to cheer him up - I ordered a load the other day for the shop so I'm sure I can reroute one...or two... to him! My poor bank balance.
