It's really sad for the horses, but don't be too quick to judge an ill man who was trying to manage on his own. If he had gone to the USPCA and said he couldn't manage, would they have helped? There but for the Grace of God...
I can see that they were all standing in an awfully muddy area but to me they all looked in perfectly acceptable condition, there weren't any skinny horses shown.
The carcasses however are obviously cause for concern.
you're quite right. The conditions in which they were kept were grim, and to most of us, unacceptable, but most of those animals shown weren't actually poor, and must have been fed. Had they been cattle, then nothing would have been said. Cattle live in similar conditions all over the world, including the UK.
I'm not condoning what happened, but consider the words of intouch, right again. If the poor man who owned these horses wasn't able to ask for help, then who are we to judge? It must be a sad end to his former dreams.
The decaying carcasses were a sad sight, and we can only imagine how they met their end. I would have thought that if the USPCA and a team of volunteers had been there for a week, then half a dozen round bails of straw, rolled out at the start, would at least have given the poor creatures somewhere to lie down. It wouldn't have made such an effective film though, would it?
The fact that there were bodies lying around suggests that these horses led a very miserable exsistance. I imagine there was a lot of inbreeding going on as well. I dont see how these horses weren't reported earlier though? Surely someone would have seen them?
Very sad for the horses and IMO there's never an excuse to let them suffer like this.
I'm sorry but I think they were underweight. Only babies too, a sad start to life and their experience of people
Yes the owner could have asked for help. For him and the animals in his care. Do not see how an illness can excuse keeping animals in those conditions.
It needs to be remembered that the USPCA will be using the worse photos to portray the worse image to gain public support just like the RSPCA do to maximise their donations.
Although the horses are clearly in distress, I have seen worse cases. It all goes back to responsibility: if you cant handle it, dont take it on. And if the responsibility has become too much seek help!
Poor horses indeed.
