Poor Lass - Free to good home

I hear ya mulledwhine, they are local to me too :( I am mega naive, I wish I had the land and money to take in all these free to 'good' home ponies :(

There are always 2 sides to every story. I dont know these people so am only summising but what if they cant afford to keep her. I would say she has very little value, she is a 14 yr old ex racehorse I think! Having recently been in a very similar position myself I know when I came on here and was contemplating pts rather than free or loan I was pretty much hammered for even thinking about it. I advertised mine and had several totally unsuitable people show up because he was cheap! Sadly, having found him the loveliest new home he was found to have a severe heart murmur so it fell through. These people seem to be trying to find her a home, she doesnt really have a commercial value so they are trying to rehome her and getting criticised for doing so. Very sadly we are not all in a position to keep horses that do not fit our purpose (that isnt meant to sound harsh, its simply the best way to phrase it), in an ideal world we would all keep our old, infirm horses until they slip away but it doesnt happen. Of course, there may be a more sinister reason, I dont know but whatever happens I hope the horses needs are put first.

I don't think from the advert these are bad owners just a bit thoughtless maybe? I think better wording at the end might be £xxx amount donation to charity to ensure good home?
When I was looking for a new home one of my horses I intended to gift him but pretended a year loan wvtb to check and double check all was ok

Its just a sad fact there are too many racehorses (and therefore too many ex-racers) being bred- they arent bred for soundness or temperament either. Just speed!. So it is inevitable there arent enough knowledgeable homes for all of them. :(

This is typical . Overbreeding ..... they bought/got the mare , bred off her. If you want a foal/youngster/horse/pony there are plenty out there looking/needing a home. Numbers dont need to be added to. I agree in that I'd have an asking price or loan with view to buy , that way it encourages someone who is going to be serious about ownership.
