My sister lives in London with her partner, toddler, young baby and two cats. They have a catflap. It was a chip one but the younger cat wont go through unless it was propped open.
A seriously skinny pretty terrible looking cat kept appearing, asleep in various places and at first they popped it back out side.
Then after mentioning it to a neighbour as they were worried about the state of it were told it belonged a few doors up but that they had a child a few years back and no longer let it in or fed it so it ate at other houses via cat flaps, usually being shoo'ed away. So my sister stopped putting it back out and it just seemed to move in completely. Seemed happy enough eating and sleeping, never did anything else.
She took it to the vet who said it was very very old and probably had cancer (unsure how they could tell that?) but didn't seem in pain.
So they wormed, flea'd and carried on feeding and letting it sleep inside. This last few days its gone downhill fast, being sick and not moving to eat or anything so she is taking him to be pts today.
They thought they should knock the "owners" door and let them know incase they wanted to take it themselves. As soon as they explained who they were the guy butted in with "we don't want it, that's why we shut it out, just keep it" and shut the door in their faces.
Sister is really upset, she said although shes only had him weeks he's always with her, I think its also her first experience of having to take an animal to be pts. Aren't people unbelievable

RIP poor little cat- Hopefully he had a nice last few weeks in the dry and warm with food on tap unlike his last years :(

We have one that has moved in through my cat flap. He was always hanging around in my garden in wind rain snow etc. Long haired soaked through, dirty and matted. I located his owner who said "we used to live on a farm so its not fair to let him in the house, he lives outside"

Try telling him that! He's currently snoring in front of my log burner. His coat is now glossy and silky - he is the most loving thing who comes to bed with me every night.

I have blatantly stolen him, but she said she as long as he hadn't been ran over she wasn't worried where he was 🤷‍♀️ they don't even have a garden, no shelter so I'm not sure where they expected him to go
