My daughter's little Welsh Section B tripped on a hack in October and has been lame since. Today the vet, who has been brilliant scanned his fetlock having dealt with other various problems he has had as a result of it and says he has also damaged his deep flexor tendon and he needs 6 months turned away and then see how he goes.

Poor little fellow was hysterical with the vet today - very upset at being handled and nerve blocked and scanned even difficult to sedate so we could at least do everything with less distress to him.

He was my daughter's very first pony and he has been so brilliant for her, taught her how to really ride and so much more. I am so sad for him, but I guess he won't mind another 6 months eating and not working and no vet. I am just sad for him and feel guilty that we couldn't keep him safe, but I guess he just tripped coming back after a fast canter into trot and I am not sure what we could have done. She had had a lesson on him in the morning and maybe I should have said no to the hack as well since I knew they would be going fast, but he was very fit and the ground was good....i suppose it's normal to feel bad..

On the other hand as she had been growing out of him, so we started looking for a bigger pony and found Sir Noddy. I was expecting a long search, but he was the first we called about and we tried him, the owner even let Zoe take him to a show (where she came 2nd) and then we bought him without looking at any others and so far (after a month) he has been fantastic. Daft name, but it kind of suits him.

The ups and downs of horses, I suppose.

i hate to think what mine would be like after 6 months eating, he's fat and uncontrollable after his week-long break lol

Similar story to me. We have a sweet sec b, daughter was out hacking with friends, talking away and didn't look where she was going, so didn't see the pot-hole, nor did he and he tripped down it

Poor little fella, it was his ddft too, massive lump and almost non-weight bearing. After six months he was sound and we brought him back into work, but although he stayed sound there was always alot of heat and some swelling after he had been ridden, so we turned him away for another six months.

He came back sound but then was so unfit and fat he got a touch of laminitis, so had more time off.

Since then he has been sound as a pound, but of course daughter now way too big for him! Good luck with new neddy Noddy, looks a nice sort

Dont beat yourself up about pony getting injured it can happen so easily and they get injured just as easily turned out or in the box as they do out hacking, hope he enjoys his "retirement"

New pony looks gorgeous i hop your daughtger has lots of fun on him.

Thanks everyone. Good to hear your story Llewelyn, she will definitely be too big for him like your daughter by the time he is (fingers crossed) sound and we will have to find him a nice little person, but i expect things will work out in the end.

I am going to keep as he is now out during the day and in at night and come the better weather find him a nice field to go out 24/7 in, but the will have to make sure it isn't too lush for him as I don't want to emulate that section of your story as well! Just the coming sound part. He will probably enjoy it, but I still feel bad.

Noddy is proving to be a little star and his neck markings mean we can save money on freeze marking!
