Poor little spaniel ... bloody horse!

Spring appears to have sprung. Horses being nutters in field tonight and one ran over my little cocker. Appeared to stand on his thigh and Barney naturally now quite sore. He's not crying and appears happy enough to move around but not really fully weight bearing, only placing toe to floor whilst hopping about.

Not sure if I need to take straight to vet or wait until morning? Imagine they wouldn't x ray tonight anyway as not emergency I guess. Keeping him warm and quiet, should I give pain relief tonight (I have Metacam here as he sometimes gets sore back - bit of an oldie at 13) or wait to speak to vet in morning? Poor little chap is a bit subdued but to be expected. Bloody horse!

Any advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance
 
As he's a old boy I would ring vet for advise. Probably ok to give metacam but would speak to vet to be on safe side.

Half a tonne of horse at speed....against a spaniel thigh?....Hmmmmm

Thank you for responses folks. He is moving bit more comfortably so vet happy to see him in morning. I would like to point out that this happened at 7 o'clock this evening, I haven't had a dog hobbling about all afternoon! Will re think taking them to the field with me though, poor little chap :-(

Same horse stood on my thigh when we had a fall team chasing so I know how much it hurts - poor little guy! He's had some pain relief and booked in at vets first thing in morning. Given he's behaving normally and moving around they're comfortable not an emergency for tonight

Feel dreadful. Time has probably come to keep him away from the horses, he's not as alert/quick on his feet as he used to be
 
If he's happy to move then I would wait too surely better for him than being at the vets in a cage. Blood flow etc. Good luck tomorrow, also have a 13 year old cocker
 
glad to read he is a bit better, please do learn from this, I never cease to be perplexed by why people allow their dogs to run free around horses, especially in the field :(
 
If the poor chap isn't weight bearing, on the injured leg, then tomorrow morning, first thing, he would be in for x/rays.

13 is old, and in that, the poor little woofer has my sympathies.
