I went to see a lovely mare last Saturday with view to having her on loan, and her owner was so lovely too, and the mare was perfect for me. It also meant that if everything worked out I would be able to buy transport for my daughter and her pony (which I posted about previously).
We all liked each other and got on really well, and the lady came to see my yard on Wednesday to see where she was coming to and we were all sorted, and I was going to pick her up this afternoon.
Last night she phoned me to say that the mare had cut her leg in the field, she wasn't lame but it was just a scrape, but that she felt she ought to just let me know, we talked about it and decided that I would pick her up anyway unless her owner felt that she ought to stay at home a few more days to make sure that she was ok, so we agreed that I would fetch her this afternoon unless I heard from her.
So this morning about half past ten I got a message to say that she would have to cancel to day and that she would ring me later. I read it and thought oh here we go, I'm going to get let down again! It seemed to be going so well, I was waiting for something to go wrong.
But I wasn't prepared for what happened next.
At twelve noon as I was driving home I got a phone call from the lady's partner.
The mare was collapsed in the stable this morning, the vet was called and found a massive internal tumour, and there was nothing she could do, and they decided that the best thing for the mare was pts.
I just burst into tears at the side of the road.
Poor poor lady, and poor mare.
I haven't put all the details, because its her story too, but its just so sad and such a shame.
So I am still looking, but it was so nice to meet this lady, and I am just so sorry.
Rip little mare.

Aw so sorry to here this, what a sad story, im sorry you never got to spend time with this horse ? How distressing for you and the owner, but im glad the mare was with her when she was pts and in familiar surroundings
