Had a call from a friend yesterday asking for help as her mare was down in field.
When we arrived it was her old mare ( 31yr old TB )
She had rolled on a hill and couldn't get up. She had exhusted herself trying.
We managed to turn her and she tried in vain to get to her feet.
Fire brigade, animal rescue and vet were called. The fire men turned up very quick and all kneeled down to prop the old girl up until the animal rescue arrived with the hoist about an hour later.
She was attached in the sling and hoisted to her feet. After about 20 minutes she was steady enough to walk to her stable. She behaved so well throughout the 2 hrs . She also stayed alert and was eating whilst being supported by firemen.
Today she seems none the worst from her ordeal. Although she is a little stiff but hey she is 31.
The fire crew and animal rescue were really great so if any of you read this THANKS

Aww bless her! Glad to hear she's none the worse for her ordeal! A friend of mines 42 year old had obviously layed down in the night in the field and couldn't get back up, we got down in the morning to find her exhausted, got a few blokes down the yard that were working on a house near by and managed to get her up, she walked up the lane and grazed for 20 mins then came back to her stable and layed down and died, poor mare. Your friends horse is very lucky x

I had this with my old shire who got stuck in a pond. Firebrigade and rescue service were fantastic. He was down 19 hours and the firebrigade and vet were there for most of that. When they went all I had to do was call and they were back immediately tohelp me move him as he got stuck against a fence at 3in the morning. He eventually stood with he help of slings and a fork lift type thing. I took them some cans and a thankyou card and the fire officer even came to the yard to see how he was. He did the same thing last year so no banned from that side of field.

Find out when that watch is on and take them a pressie and a thankyou note they really appreciate it as they do a fantastic job. And they didn't charge me. My horse would have been dead without them and the vet and all the helpers
