Went up to the yard earlier for my SJ lesson and was confronted by this...(photos do not show the extent of the swelling)

Poor babe is obv feeling very sorry for herself. I found where the hair was (on a curved wall) so she has obv bashed it very hard and it is fresh and still swelling (wasn't there at 7.30am). I think I know what has caused her to do it (a barking dog) and am rather cross. Have turned her out to have some grass and I hope it will help with the swelling. Ho hum, my life is never simple!

Ouch! Poor thing.

Put some aloe vera gel on if you have some. I used this to great sucess when my clumsy mare did a simialr thing & the hair grew back in no time & no scarring. Helps take any heat out too.

Ha ha, no!!!! Poor dude, it is hot and she laid her head on me for ages wanting love - and you know she is never usually not that with me!

I remember my old pony once did that right over his eye - no idea how as he was living out. His eye was so swollen. Happened to be on a day we'd had really heavy snow (years ago!) and used snow 'compresses' to cool it down. he felt v v sorry for himself too - think he must have had a real headache

Bring her up to join out horspital

Tonto with his tendon sheath operation
Donkey with her holey tummy
Atilla has gone lame (off to vet today)

Plenty of company for her!

Blooming horses hey!!

Ooh, looks sore.
Mine did the same a few years ago, what at first looked quite innocuous ended up being a fracture to the eye orbit. Initial swelling went down and then about a week later, his whole head swelled up as the bone chips moved.

Oh dear poor luv. Oscar did a very similar thing when he got cast/colic but with the help of aloe vera the coat grew back in no time

(his wasnt swollen as much as P's though

Poor Porridge indeedy.

James did this once and the lump was like a bl**dy egg! I definitely would recommend chucking some arnica tablets in her feed for a couple of days, bless her.

She really didn't want to jump, did she?

PMSL I know, honestly you would think I would learn by now!!!

Carthorse - yes big stable, in which she gets herself slightly cast in on an almost daily basis

Have just got her in and the swelling is no worse - have given her some arnica and aloe on her head and hope she hasn't done anything serious, but she marched in from the field so I think she is fine

Poor girlie - looks sore.

Cairo did this to Chancer two weeks before a big show - they had obviously been playing too hard. and Cairo does have a huge gob.

I rubbed megatek into it and by the time of the show the hair had grown back and nothing showed.

Bless her

Bazzy had something similar last winter. He bashed it in the lorry on the way over to England.

Did you give her a headache pill and bag of peas

Oh no poor baby, it must be a bad time of year for horses causing themselves injuries. lots of kisses to the gorgeous Porridge. I hope she gets better soon.
