I once took my dog to an agility competition and half way round the course she started coughing ! I had never heard her do it before, didn’t even know dogs could cough and she was fine in herself but I did get a lot of disapproving looks that day .....she just carried on coughing for a couple of days and then was fine.

Well I think Ruby has it now! She sounds just like my others when they have had it. She is fine inbetween bouts of sounding like she is choking to death. I suspect she will have me awake half the night. All my other dogs of every kind have had it but none have been very ill so I'm not worried at the moment. We live in a really doggy area with the common and a footpath outside the front door so I assume that is where she has picked it up. That said I will pavement walk her for a few days if she is coughing overnight.
It sounds as if they are choking and I think they feel a bit off colour but none of mine have ever needed treatment though in the past i have seen the vet when I didn't realise what it was.

well forgive my comment as I’m just too “rude and pedantic” for some novice owners ? but I don’t put you in that category - my lot had kennel cough once without ever coming into contact with another dog, I assume they picked up the virus from the route that we walked which was also used by many other dog walkers? It was quite surreal, I knew that was what they had to have but I couldn’t understand how

One of the four got it worse than the others (Flick always was a bit special bless her!) but I gave them all honey from a teaspoon which they enjoyed tremendously and they came right fairly quickly ?

Pepper has perked up to her normal self but has left a huge amount of green snot on my white company bedspread ? oh and the sheets where she snuggled under it.

Mingen little thing! ?

I am glad she is better, sorry about the bedspread if it can go in the machine vanish might do it.

Oh Lev I had forgotten the honey thing. My vet did suggest it previously. Will give her some as she is still a bit hoarse and coughing but unfortunately it has not stopped her madness ;-)
