I work at an out of hours vet surgery that is based inside a normal daytime practice. I went into work last night and the host practice had a really sweet little puppy brought in that day that someone had found by the side of the road! It has a badly broken leg, and is quite underweight. It looks like a lurcher cross and is around 3/4 months, and there were travellers nearby the day before so could possibly have come from them. The RSPCA said that they would just euthanase it! One of the vets wants to operate as a training thing but needs permission from the big company that own their surgery. She should hear today so I'll find out tonight the poor little guys fate.
Don't know why I'm posting really, just feel so bad for the little guy, he is so sweet and so scared, thank god someone picked him up and brought him in. Should keep my credit card firmly in my wallet......hmmmmm......

Good news! The vets owners have agreed to pay half, and a friend of one of the nurses here is going to pay the other half and adopt him, hooray!! Wish it was such a happy ending for all the dumped dogs out there.

RSPCA wanted to PTS

How sweet of people to rally round the poor little chap and thank goodness they are more compassionate than the RSPCA.

If I worked at a vet I'd be overrun with waifs and strays. It must be so hard to be an animal lover and see that sort of thing

He's having his op on tuesday I think, it hasn't been decided yet whether they'll fix the break or amputate, but he's al ightweight dog and young so he'll cope fine on 3 and is much better than being pts!
We have a lot of dealings with the rspca and I have never been particularly impressed with them. They seem to have their priorities all wrong, and are swayed by the presence of cameras! For example, I've seen them on tv pay out for a tree surgeon to come and rescue a magpie from a tree and then operate to fix its leg! But they wouldn't do it for a puppy.
