We were doing the usual walk yesterday:

Zak screeched going along the riverbank and came to wait for the ball to be thrown again, but he was rattling! This was attached:

Here is the culprit:

Unfortunately, the triple barb was deeply embedded in his stifle so he needed surgery :( We took him straight to the vets, still soaking wet!

The patient is resting comfortably and isn't even vaguely bothered today, although after his GA, he was obviously very subdued.

The lure was discarded or lost on the riverbank, no line attached, so maybe dropped. Who knows, but I do wish fishermen would do their best to find stuff like this! I've never seen anyone ever fishing there in 11 years and there's only brown trout in there, bit of an OTT lure!

OMG how awful.

Some fishermen don't care about discarded fishing tackle, the harm it can do to birds, and any other animal who gets caught in it.

Hope he is ok and that is a great action shot of them both jumping in.

I agree. I used to live next to a canal towpath, and the injuries to pets and wildlife caused by careless fishermen was terrible. :(

I hope he gets well soon.

Poor boy! Glad surgery went well and hope it doesn't stop him bombing off the river bank although being a spaniel I bet it wont! ;)

Ha, he thinks he's fine, bit short on the turns, but dragged my OH round the woods on his flexi lead (dare I use this term?!) and is having stitches out on Monday. :)
