OK all you Nutritionalists... My 14 year old TB Mare has rotten feet. She is shod every 5 weeks, she will not hold a shoe longer than that. Her hoof growth is very slow, so the farrier has hardly any foot to trim. What does grow is prone to split and crack.

I have tried Farriers Formula and also Formula4Feet, I fed these supplements for over 6 months and even tried doubling the dose - at the manufacturer's recommendation and still her feet did not grown faster.

This year for the first time she had Rye Grass Haylage and her feet improved quite a lot. What is in the Rye Grass that has improved matters.

Have you tried HoofPower Plus, its an Equne America product and I found it worked well with my horse. There is also a product made by Global Herbs (gold tub) called Lamicular that also helped, due to increased blood supply to the hoof.

I was recommended to put my horse on a good feed balancer - which I did.

Topspec comes very highly recommended by many on here.

Re amy mays post top spec has added hoof supp inc.My tb has good quality hoof heels are poor but thats another issue.Since we have been using bal he is actually having them trimmed which is a first.

i don't know, but i used to have a mare with a sandcrack in her front foot, she had it her whole life except for when we had a hydroponic barley growing machine and could feed her sprouted barley seeds

when it broke the sandcrack grew back, so whatever it is in the rye grass may well be in hydroponically grown barley

Naf hoof pro is doing my TB's feet good, they're the best they've ever been since he's been on that

I'm afraid it's a problem with lots of TBs.
I've tried HoofPower Plus but actually found Formula 4 Feet more effective.
Whilst it does not necessarily promote growth it seems to help the quality of the small amount of hoof that does grow.
My main recommendation is a brilliant farrier. I've been through numerous farriers who have made my boy lame, not been able to get nails and and who put on shoes only for them to fall off a week later. Talk to your farrier. I found with mine if the nails are slightly higher than usual it helps him keep the shoe and stops the bottom crumbling. However, this can be difficult as too high and they'll go lame.

ok so try seaweed, lots oif goodies for feet in that, and use cornucresine (sp) teice aday around the coronary band, its great stuff and the race yard i worked on swar by it.

I second seaweed and cornucresine (is that how you spell it?).
Worked wonders for my mates TB's feet x.

We have tried all the above on a mare who had cracks so bad she was box rested after remedial shoeing for over a year.
The best supplement we found is something Saracen sold us called ker-a form.
You only need a small amount and the mare now has perfect feet.
I also added oil to her diet anyway, but I can stand by the product as working even better than we expected.

I am the queen of rubbish feet however so far we have not had a single shoe lost or chunks falling off since last summer and the reason is that i tried Grand Hoof from Grand Meadow after a couple of shoeings we started to notice a difference its £40 for a tub that lasts for 80 days here is the UK link http://www.horsespecialities.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=58
Alsa Alfa Alfa is very good for thir feet,i have tried every supplement under the sun but the only one that have worked is Grand Meadow 1 scoop per day thats it

You could try black sunflower seeds - mine have a small mug twice a day. Whilst they have not had bad feet, they are barefoot and since feeding BSS their feet are now so tough that they rarely have any bits missing and my farrier grunts and uses an extra sharp trimmer to get through them.

Another vote for Grand Meadows Grand Hoof with MSM - I've had two shelly flat footed ex-racers on it for a few months and the difference was very noticeable within 8 weeks - mine are shod every four weeks. Loads of growth and a firmer sole.

Most local feed merchants do them - look in the bird food area. Buy a small 1 kg bag first to see how the horse likes them, and then get the large 15k bags - far cheaper.

Mine have never had such good feet since feeding them - thanks to the top tip from Tia.

Coats are also softer and glossy and BSS are said to be good for keeping black/dark coats in good colour.

Has anyone had difficulties with deliveries for the Grand Hoof Hoof Supplement?? I ordered mine last week its not arrived yet. I've noticed an improvement in the toughness of the sole of the hoof and there is a ridge of new hoof growth, but other than that I've not noticed anything, my horse been on it since Jan this year. Also hes still got cracks in his hooves but Ive been told it can take up to a year but since hes been off the supplement for a week now due to no delivery Im not sure how that will affect it.
