Had the vet out to rockster today

brought him in from the field and he was coughing away, i thought he'd got something stuck in his throat so tacked him up and took him in the school. Every other stride he was coughing, and weezing away, got straight off and over the next half an hour his breathing got worse and worse, and he was seriously distressed. Queue my phone call to vet. By the time she got there he had calmed down a lot and his breathing wasnt as bad. Vet did some checks and on listening to his lungs said they were fairly distressed, and says it his athsma being aggrivated by the increased pollen in the air. Hes been put on a course of ventipulmin and being closely watched.
However it doesnt end there, she also noticed (which i had also) that he was passing water rather than droppings and was very sore in the tummy and colicky. He was wormed saturday and has had a bad reaction to it, as have 4other horses on the yard, so she has also given him codeine for the next 3days to tighten things up and give him some pain relief.
She also gave him an injection to help both problems.
When i left him he was a lot better and merrily munching on his hay which is really good, and i'll pop back up before i go to bed to see how hes doing.
So yes good vibes for my poorly boy please

Sheesh, poor Rocky, fingers crossed he is ok! You must be worried sick! ((hugs))

Have to ask though, if you were worried that he might have something stuck in his throat and was passing water why tack him up and take him in the school?

He wasnt passing water at that point (or i hadnt noticed it) and i thought it was just a few bits of grass or dust (as it was quite a dry cough and no weezing) so didnt have a second thought really, he coughed twice coming in from the field then nothing until i got on him.
 
Thank you, like i said he was a lot better when i left and will pop up before i go to bed just to make sure hes ok and settled. Was a scary moment though. Vet talking about putting him on an inhalor....then quickly changed her mind when she tried to handle him lol! She said theres no way you'd get an inhalor on that horse...oops...

Shoulder was SO much better, im so chuffed, managed to school 2horses this morning and it barely hurt - highly recommend the bioflow magnetic wraps!
 
I managed to use an inhaler on Patches for three days, with a twitch. After that there was no way she was letting us near her with it. You'd think she would have realised it didn't kill her for three days, so was harmless enough.

Fingers crossed he gets better soon. Poor love sounds like he was really suffering. Out of interest (pm if you wish), which Wormer did you use?

They shouldnt get colicky on it, I'd phone the company and warn them of the reactions you encountered if I were you as it may be a faulty batch or something.
 
i would never touch eqvalan again. My old mare had colic surgury years ago, all recovered fine, the vet said at the time they did not know why but i was pretty convinced it was the wormer so she never got wormed with it again. just used panacur and strongid p, she was pts 3 weeks ago at the age of 26. lots of hugs and hope your boy feels better soon maybe give him some probiotics to help tummy settle.
