Looks like she might have a displaced elbow :( It's very swollen and the vet doesnt want to have to put her under if she can help it so she prescribed anti imflamatories and pain killers. If she's bad tomorrow then mum is to take her straight in otherwise the vet wants to wait until the swelling has gone down - she hopes its a bad sprain or aggravated athritus.

As it happens she was due to go in today anyway as her skin problem has flared up again so she's back on the antibiotics for that. The vet said because she was so run down when mum and dad got her any problems are going to take longer to heal. Taking everything into account thats gone wrong since they had her the vet said she probably needed vetinary attention for about 6 months before mum and dad got her :(

Poor Sandy. She is such a lucky girl to be with your mum and dad though, as CC says, I dread to think what would have become of the poor old girl. :(
Get well soon Sandy x

Thanks guys :) She's so good at hiding pain that we don't always notice something is wrong right away :( She just carries on and is so cuddly and loving. I wish we knew what her history is.

Thanks everyone for your kind words :) She nearly went back in the following morning but as she wasn't worse the vet said to hold off. The swelling went down dramatically last night :) She's still not really able to do more than walk round the garden tho she did have a little pootle in the field this morning :) so it's looking like either a sprain or aggravated athritus and it's not displaced. She's back in monday for her check up so we'll know more then :)

So glad to hear she's improved. I would say poor Sandy but actually I think she is extremely lucky Sandy to have found such a wonderful caring family :):) I think your parents can take it as read that she's much better off with them than where she came from! Keep us up to date and fingers crossed for her.

Poor old Sandy - at least she is with your Mum and Dad getting the best care. She is such a total sweety she deserves the best of everything. Fingers crossed it is just a sprain.

Just realised I didn't update you guys! Luckily the elbow wasnt displaced and shes now walking fine on it :) The vet has suggested hyrdotherapy in the spring with her but as Sandy isn't insured it might be a bit costly, especially as my dad is finally listeniong to his body and is planning to retire. We'll see how it goes tho :)

Her itching is getting better, she had a steroid injection in the end. The problem is even tho shes been treated for fleas it only takes one to jump on her and it triggers her allergy. The house is treated reguarly so are the cats but rogue ones still appear, possibly from interacting with other dogs. Now its getting colder she shouldnt need anymore but we'll need to watch her when the weather warms up.
